The Role

Deploy as a civilian for six months overseas, delivering exercise and reconditioning services to Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and partner nations. The Reconditioning Specialist will lead reconditioning programmes, design specific protocols, provide training and professional development, and support recreational activities to maintain the troops’ physical and mental readiness.

Responsibilities

• Deliver exercise and reconditioning services to CAF members and partner nations.
• Lead reconditioning programmes for individuals with medical conditions, improving functional abilities.
• Design and implement specific programmes and services that support reconditioning and prevent future injury.
• Provide training and professional development to the local team and partner organisations.
• Promote healthy practices and injury prevention through educational programmes, special events and related activities.
• Assist with recreational activities and events to keep military personnel physically and mentally ready.

Qualifications

Education, Certifications and Licenses

• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Human Kinetics, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Sciences or a related field.
• Current Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) certification.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS CPR) and First Aid certification.
• Valid driver’s licence (province).
• Canadian citizenship and a valid Canadian passport.

Experience

• Development, coordination, research, planning and delivery of reconditioning, physical fitness programming, motor skill development, evaluation protocols and exercise prescription.
• Fitness counselling to clients with physical and/or mental injuries.
• Referral of clients for lifestyle or medical assessments.
• Leadership of physical fitness evaluations and baseline testing for individuals with chronic metabolic and/or musculoskeletal disorders or injuries.
• Research and design of physical fitness education sessions.
• Data collection, assessment, case management and report writing.
• Review of medical provider assessments and development of physical fitness plans.
• Coordination with external services regarding client progress and recommendations.
• Preparation and delivery of reports.
• Establishment and maintenance of professional partnerships in the local community.
• Oral and written communication for professional and public audiences.
• Development and facilitation of health, wellness and fitness education workshops.
• Facilitation of briefings on specialised topics for adult audiences.
• Application of policies, procedures and regulations.

Additional Qualifications Prior To Deployment

• Completion of a health, dental and psychosocial assessment.
• Security screening.
• Ability to walk and lift, carry, pull or push heavy items.

Language Requirements

• English – Essential (Reading Functionally, Writing Functionally, Oral Functionally).
• Bilingual Essential – considered for all available positions.

Job Information

Position Type

Civilian deployment contracts are 6-month terms. Deployment start dates may take place within the next 2 years.

Hours of Work

Maximum 56 hours per week, which includes weekdays and weekends.
