Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

The Laboratory Assistant performs data entry, specimen preparation and a wide range of duties to support diagnostic testing processes. The Assistant applies specific knowledge and skills to perform simple diagnostic testing or complex procedures.

Qualifications

• Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate from the Medical Laboratory Professionals' Association of Ontario (MLPAO formerly OSMT) or the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) for Medical Laboratory Assistant
• Minimum of six (6) months previous laboratory experience
• Experience with front line automation is preferred
• Excellent computer skills (Cerner preferred)
• Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory protocols and terminology
• Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology
• Demonstrated technical problem solving skills
• Demonstrated effective organizational, multi-tasking and time management while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated strong conflict management skills
• Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills
• Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
• Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
• Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose and Values
• Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
