Senior Planner

The opportunity

Associated Engineering, a proudly Canadian, employee-owned company is seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Planner to join our team in our Saskatoon office.

This is an opportunity for an experienced planner to take a leadership role in a growing planning practice and work on a diverse range of planning projects across Saskatchewan and Western Canada. You will lead projects, build client relationships, contribute to business development, and mentor planning staff while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of professionals.

Our work includes community planning, land development, Indigenous planning, policy and regulatory planning, and public and stakeholder engagement.

What you’ll do

Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Lead planning projects from initiation through completion, including scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, and quality
• Serve as a primary client contact and provide professional advice on complex planning and development issues
• Lead public, community, Indigenous, and stakeholder engagement processes
• Prepare and present planning recommendations to councils, committees, boards, clients, community groups, and other audiences
• Prepare and review statutory and non-statutory plans, including Official Community Plans, Municipal Development Plans, and Sector, Neighbourhood, and Area Structure Plans, concept plans, comprehensive development reviews, and outline plans
• Lead site planning, development feasibility analysis, subdivision design, and land use planning studies
• Prepare and review development, discretionary use, rezoning, subdivision, and related planning applications
• Research, analyze, and prepare planning policies, bylaws, reports, and other technical documents
• Coordinate with engineering, environmental, landscape architecture, and other technical disciplines on multidisciplinary projects
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate planning staff
• Develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients
• Identify business development opportunities and lead or contribute to proposals and expressions of interest
• Support the Manager, Urban Planning in growing the planning practice and developing team capabilities

You will report directly to the Manager, Urban Planning, but will work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the Saskatchewan operation and across Associated Engineering. You will also lead public and private sector planning work in communities across Western Canada. 

Does this sound like you?

• Bachelor’s degree in Planning or a related discipline
• Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional planning experience in the public or private sector
• Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation in Saskatchewan
• Strong knowledge of land use policy, legislation, and regulatory frameworks in Saskatchewan
• Demonstrated experience independently leading planning projects, including managing scope, budget, schedule, and client expectations
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and working collaboratively with technical professionals
• Strong experience in one or more of the following:
  • Community and policy planning
  • Land development and site planning
  • Subdivision design
  • Development feasibility and land use analysis
  • Indigenous planning
  • Public and stakeholder engagement
• Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
• Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to less experienced staff
• Experience developing client relationships and contributing to business development and proposals
• Valid Class 5 driver's license
• Willing and ability to travel throughout Saskatchewan, with occasional travel to Alberta and British Columbia
