SLAM Technologies Inc., a sister company to Roth IAMS Ltd. is currently seeking a Senior (Full Stack PHP) Developer to be responsible for application development across the SLAM Technologies technology platforms.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful applicant will be accountable for:

• The ongoing software development of SLAM, including continuous deployment, integration, testing, monitoring, and maintenance of the code.

• The operational excellence, including stability, resiliency, performance, and observability, of the SLAM systems and services.

• Providing guidance and leadership to all members of the technical development team.

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

Development

• Write, modify, integrate, and test front and back-end software code.

• Design and maintain effective database schemas.

Production Environment Support

• Perform regular analysis and testing of complex systems to evaluate performance.

• Facilitate root-cause analysis of system issues related to performance, stability, and reliability.

• Integrate new and maintain exiting tools to address technical issues which may affect production environments.

Planning

• Assist in maintaining a development plan of future specifications.

• Identify opportunities and develop plans for the improvement of system performance or reliability based on current and future anticipated needs.

• Provide technical guidance when evaluating applications, requests for proposals, or work statements from customers.

• Analyze and design specifications for less experienced internal and third-party team members to execute.

Leadership

• Assist management with delegation of technical work packages to internal and third-party team members for execution through the full development life cycle.

• Actively contribute to the technical and soft skills development of team members.

• Perform requirement, recommendation, design, and code review to other teams and customers as required.

Communication

• Keep management appropriately informed of project statuses and issues.

• Coordinate system application transition from development teams to maintenance and support teams.

• Construct and implement necessary controls to assure development traceability.

• Create documentation, including playbooks, reports, and knowledge bases as appropriate.

• Serve as a lead technical reviewer and contributor to documentation.

• Actively participate in the change management process.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

• 5+ years of software development experience in PHP

• 2+ years of experience maintaining a SaaS production environment based on Linux and MySQL

• Expert knowledge of Object-oriented programming, Design Patterns, and best practices in PHP

• Proficient in using a modern PHP framework such as Symfony or Laravel

• Experience working with SQL databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and optimizing complex queries

• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs

• Strong knowledge in JavaScript and proficient in writing and maintaining reusable components

• Experience working with frontend frameworks and at least some experience working with AngularJS/Angular 2+

• Experience working with Source code control systems

Considered an Asset:

• Experience with public cloud providers including Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google GCP, specifically an understanding of public architecture concepts, and an understanding of Infrastructure as Code

• Sensitive data management in the cloud including data protection and security

• Experience with risk detection & remediation, automated configuration & control tools like Redlock and Turbot

• Experience using system provisioning and configuration management tools such as Puppet and Chef

• Experience with containerized deployments of software, with some portion of this time covering Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms

• Experience with automated build or CI/CD pipelines for containerized software

• Configuring and maintaining backup, monitoring, and alerting systems for multiple clients

• Experience in performance management of relational, non-relational, SQL, and noSQL database engines (e.g., MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB, Redis or Elasticsearch)

• Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or other science/engineering field

• Demonstrated experience developing SaaS software applications and models

OTHER

This position is subject to our Working Remotely Corporate Policy and Procedure, which provides workplace flexibility and reduces the requirement for the successful applicant to work, in-person, predominately from our offices in Oakville, ON.

This position is being offered as full-time permanent
