Position Summary:

The Senior Automation Engineer will play a pivotal role in modernizing the quality-engineering foundation for Ascend, Kindsight’s flagship Salesforce second-generation managed package. This is a highly technical, code-first role for an engineer who can take ownership of a large Playwright automation repository, simplify and refactor it, and make automated testing faster, more reliable, and easier for engineering teams to use.

The immediate mandate is to deliver visible improvements within the first several months: reduce duplication and code bloat, introduce scalable design patterns, enable selective and parallel test execution, and strengthen integration with CI/CD. Longer term, this engineer will help raise automation practices across the Ascend team, support a shift-left quality model, and shape how testing is built into the product-development lifecycle.

What You’ll Do:

• Own, maintain, and scale the Playwright-based end-to-end automation framework for Ascend.

• Refactor and optimize a large existing test repository to improve speed, reliability, readability, reuse, and maintainability.

• Design a modular test architecture that reduces copy-and-paste code and applies sound software-design and clean-code principles.

• Enable tests to run selectively and in parallel through command-line parameters, tagging, grouping, sharding, or comparable approaches.

• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD workflows so appropriate smoke, regression, and feature suites can run efficiently throughout the release lifecycle.

• Build and maintain automation that runs in containerized environments and validates Salesforce managed-package functionality across relevant org and deployment scenarios.

• Partner with developers to clarify the right balance among unit, component, integration, feature, smoke, and end-to-end testing, helping teams shift quality left.

• Improve developer experience through better tooling, diagnostics, reporting, dashboards, documentation, and workflows.

• Provide technical coaching and practical guidance to QA engineers, helping the team adopt stronger coding, automation, and repository-management practices.

• Collaborate closely with Quality Assurance leadership, Engineering leadership, developers, product partners, and other stakeholders while independently driving the technical roadmap for automation.

Required Experience & Skills

Compensation Range: $110,000-$130,000 OTE annually, based on experience, market benchmarks and role complexity. We aim to offer fair, competitive pay that reflects your skills and the market.
