Purpose of Position
The Career and Pathways Program Lead is a key member of the pedagogical team dedicated to building connections with academic and professional institutions and overseeing the integration of essential life & future readiness skills into our curriculum and programming. They are responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive program that supports students in exploring, planning, and preparing for diverse post-secondary and career pathways.
This role for an innovative and collaborative educator focuses on fostering future readiness and building meaningful connections between students and real-world learning through partnerships with local businesses, post-secondary institutions, industry and community organizations. The successful candidate will lead the development and integration of curriculum that emphasizes multiple literacies including financial, media, and interculturalwhile fostering student competencies such as critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. This role supports students in developing essential life skills, exploring future career paths, and discovering personal interests. This person will work with the IB coordinators, CAS coordinator and High School Academic counsellor to support long-term student planning and success.
Areas of Responsibility
Program development :
- Development and implementation of a comprehensive apprenticeship, internship, and career exploration program for students from Grades 7 to 12 that is rooted in Alberta Education's Career and Technology Foundations (CTF) for Middle School and Career and Technology Studies (CTS) for Senior School.
- Develop and lead a future-focused career and post-secondary pathways program for students in Grades 7-12, incorporating academic planning, career exploration, mentorship, and life skills development.
- Act as the school's work & volunteer experience coordinator, following up with business and students to ensure adherence to safety guidelines and protocols, and to minimum time requirements for high school credits.
- Further enhance and implement work shadowing & internship opportunities for grade 10 students.
- Coordinate and support student participation in internships, job shadows, co-curricular experiences, and project-based learning opportunities connected to real-world settings.
- Work with Director of Global Education & Experiential Learning to design a program for internships in grade 11/12.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs annually, gather feedback from students and stakeholders, and adjust programming as needed.
Oversee and lead programming on Approaches to Learning, future readiness and life skills workshops:
- Develop and lead workshops on IB's Approaches to Learning, including Thinking Skills, Communications Skills, Research Skills, Communication Skills and Self-Management Skills.
- Build capacity for the integration of the Middle Years Program (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Personal Project & community engagement, and ensure alignment with its overarching mission and framework.
- Work closely with faculty and leadership teams to embed career-connected learning into academic and advisory programs, fostering cross-disciplinary connections and 21st-century competencies.
- Creation of a comprehensive 6-12 scope and sequence of multiple literacies into school programming, including:
- Media Literacy (critical analysis of visual, audio, and social media content)
- Cultural and Global Literacy (understanding diverse perspectives, histories, and global issues)
- Health and Wellness Literacy (understanding physical, mental, and emotional well-being)
- Career and Workplace Literacy (navigation of professional norms, workplace documents, and communication)
- Support teachers with planning, co-teaching, and assessment strategies related to multiliteracy development to ensure students are equipped with the skills needed for academic success, engaged citizenship, and future-ready competencies.
- Collaborate with curriculum coordinators and instructional leaders to align literacy goals with school and provincial frameworks (e.g., Alberta Education, CTF, CTS, IB).
- Work in close partnership with the Academic Counsellor, CAS Coordinator, Ed Tech Integrator and MYP Coordinators to ensure continuity between MYP, the CTF/CTS program and academic and post-secondary planning in the development of career pathways, from middle school to high school.
Community partnerships:
- Build and foster relationships with community groups, businesses and neighbours through an authentic partnership approach.
- Plan and deliver workshops, guest speaker series, career fairs, and information sessions for students and families; maintain clear communication on program offerings and opportunities.
- Promote sustainable partnerships with outside companies through ongoing engagement.
- Liaise with the Director of Global Education and Experiential Learning to identify possible short-term contacts for experiential learning opportunities.
- Liaise with the Director of Development to identify possible corporate partnerships & sponsorship opportunities.
- Identify possible external partners for student led initiatives and like-minded change makers in the community.
- Attend and assist with various school events to liaise with CFIS parents, and build relationships.
- Communicate with families about the goals and benefits of the program and how to support their child's journey of career discovery and personal growth through info sessions, newsletter articles, and social media posts.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a post-secondary degree, certified teacher (Master's degree preferred).
- English-speaking with fluency in French preferred.
- Knowledge or experience with IB an asset; training to be provided as required.
- Understanding of, and sensitivity to, principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Exceptional interpersonal and networking skills to build partnerships and engage students.
- Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development and future readiness frameworks.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Passion for helping students discover meaningful pathways and purpose.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- An astute listener and strategist; comfortable receiving input from many sources, and able to analyze and formulate disparate information into a sound, well-organized plan.
