AgeTech LaunchPad is a purpose-built, university-embedded, and GTA-localized platform that addresses societal and systems-level challenges of population aging in a coordinated and practical way, enabling U of T faculty and trainees to collaboratively design, evaluate, and deploy pilot solutions across diverse community, home, and care environments. The Initiative leverages AGE-WELL, Canada’s Technology and Aging Network that brings together researchers, older adults, caregivers, partner organizations and future leaders, to build sector relationships, establish international partnerships, develop bespoke training platforms, and make pathways for scaling successful interventions.

Your opportunity:

Working under the leadership of the Academic Co-Directors, the Associate Director plays a key leadership role in the strategic development, coordination, and advancement of the AgeTech LaunchPad. The Associate Director is instrumental in building and stewarding a locally and nationally connected AgeTech research and innovation ecosystem by fostering collaboration among researchers, trainees, industry, health systems, government, community organizations, investors, older adults, and caregivers. Through strategic partnership development, program leadership, and operational oversight, the Associate Director helps advance interdisciplinary research, innovation, implementation, commercialization, and knowledge mobilization activities, contributing to the University of Toronto’s and Canada’s capacity to develop and adopt technologies that improve the lives of older adults and caregivers.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
• Researching and recommending new opportunities for external collaborations and partnerships
• Developing plans that support research collaborations and advance technologies
• Promoting the University’s research capabilities to industrial, governmental and finance sectors to enhance research and innovation funding opportunities
• Providing detailed information to researchers and students regarding University policies, government funding programs, and other relevant information within the commercialization and entrepreneurship arena
• Fostering and maintaining networks to build capacity and collaboration
• Preparing project expense/revenue modeling, forecasting cost-to-completion and financial tracking
• Verifying the accuracy and completeness of financial elements in grant submissions

Essential Qualifications:

• Master's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
• Six to seven years of progressive experience in a research environment, preferably in a university, healthcare organization or other large research organization
• Extensive knowledge of aging population ecosystems, including emergingtrends, technologies, implementation challenges, commercialization pathways, policy and regulatory environments, and key stakeholders
• Experience in working with older adults, caregivers, and other stakeholders involved in care and support of older adults
• Experience in aging population research
• Experience writing grant applications including the drafting of the full research proposal.
• Experience in strategic planning including milestone and deliverables setting
• Strong experience writing research funding applications required
• Extensive knowledge of the Canadian and international AgeTech ecosystem, including emerging trends, technologies, implementation challenges, commercialization pathways, policy environments, and key stakeholders.
• Thorough knowledge of the Canadian research funding environment, including federal and provincial funding agencies, university research administration, partnership development, and grant management.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills and high attention to detail
• Experience working directly with a broad range of stakeholders including senior executives, researchers and students on initiatives is imperative
• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to liaise, build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
• Solid project management experience including all aspects of project development and execution
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to handle conflicting and multiple priorities, superior organizational skills and time management skills
