JOB TITLE: Summer Camp Director

POSITION STATUS: Full-time (Summer)

START DATE: May 31st, 2024

END DATE: August, 30th, 2024

HOURLY WAGE: $17.55/Hour

Number of Positions Available: 1

Location: Sault Ste. Marie

RESPONSIBILITIES

General Administration & Activity Planning

? Work with the GLC Support Programmer to develop daily camp programming and activity plans;

? Work with the GLC Support Programmer to identify higher-risk camp activities, reviewing and improving existing risk management plans

? Represent all Algoma Thunderbirds Camps at promotional community events.

Staffing: Training and Evaluating

? Ensure that all Thunderbird Day Camp staff members have completed appropriate training and administrative details: first aid training, Vulnerable Sector Screenings, payroll, etc.;? Collaborate with the GLC Support Programmer in defining program areas of focus, initiatives, etc., while setting and monitoring the progress of season-specific camp and individual goals;? Update staff manual, revising emergency procedures, first aid protocol, behavior management strategy, schedules, staff responsibilities, etc.;? Collaborate with GLC Support Programmer in planning and implementation of Thunderbird Day Camp Training.

Thunderbird Day Camp

? Complete Final Evaluations of all Thunderbird Day Camp staff members; Lead daily camp set-up and teardown;

? Assist with facilitating daily camp programming and supervising campers. Ensure that all camp equipment is inventoried;

? Ensure that all Thunderbird Day Camp Module B equipment is in working order before camp starts.

Lesson Planning: Delivering, Review & Staff Guidance

? Create and facilitate activity lessons for 2 of the following daily activities: Drama, Graphic Arts, Physical Art, or Inventions.

? Work with Varsity Coaches to coordinate athletic camps per sport (as requested by coaches)? Work with all Thunderbird Day Camp staff to ensure lesson plans for activities are in line with camp vision, and give proper consideration to camper and staff safety;

? Continually develop timely feedback systems to facilitate professional development of staff, and a more enjoyable camp experience for all.? Sort registered Thunderbird Day Camp campers into camper groups for each camp session.? Parent/Guardian Information

? Update Camper Guide to be sent to registered campers;

? Follow up with program-wide inquiries by phone and email.

Financial

? Track and report on Thunderbird Day Camp expenses.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

? 1 year of experience delivering camps programming.

? Experienced and passionate with respect to creating a safe, inclusive, enjoyable, and memorable youth programming experience;

? Proven ability in leadership of co-workers, staff, and/or peer groups;

? Ability to critically reflect on camp traditions, ensuring their service of greater departmental and camp-specific goals;

? Valid Standard First Aid/CPR certification;

? Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed within 1 year of start date.
