The Director, Calgary Manufacturing, is responsible for supporting the management and development of the Calgary manufacturing operations and team to achieve plant objectives in production output, quality, safety, delivery and customer satisfaction. Leads in the preparation of an annual manufacturing plan to support the business development and business integration goals for Calgary manufactured products.

Indirect Reports: Plant Manager; Controller; IT Manager; Customer Service Supervisor; Purchasing

What You'll Do:

Driving Alignment & Accountability

• Identify and implement long-term strategies in support of business growth, capacity planning, and technology adoption.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, market conditions and data driven insights to inform operational decisions and new product development.
• Build relationships with customers and suppliers to understand product feedback and innovation opportunities
• Participate in Director-level Manufacturing meetings to review performance and strategic plans. Collaborate with Sales, Purchasing, Finance, and IT to align on cross-functional priorities and execution.

Keeping Operations Running

• Oversee daily manufacturing operations, ensuring optimal production output, material utilization, equipment efficiency, and delivery timelines.
• Lead KPI development and implementation to track productivity, quality, safety, and order fulfillment.
• Monitor productivity, waste, deficiency rates, and KPI performance to identify root causes and improvement opportunities
• Support SOP development and process optimization to reduce downtime and maximize output
• Drive continuous improvement through lean manufacturing principles, operational audits, and process optimization.

Leading People

• Coach and support indirect reports including Plant Management and department leads
• Lead performance management, succession planning, and mentoring for leadership roles within the plant
• Foster a strong, collaborative culture focused on safety, communication, and high performance

In an Average Week, You Might...

• Kick off Monday by reviewing plant output and productivity reports, flagging any issues with labour, material flow, or equipment performance, and setting focus for the week
• Walk the floor with the Plant Manager to check on quality, safety, and production schedules — and connect directly with staff on any challenges or wins
• Join a cross-functional meeting with Sales, Purchasing, and Sales to confirm delivery timelines and customer order status
• Review key KPIs and performance metrics, working with your team to identify trends, gaps, or improvement opportunities
• Support the department leader on a staffing or workflow challenge, manpower planning, cost control, performance targets, offer coaching, and guide any required adjustments.
• Wrap up Friday by preparing updates for the VP, Manufacturing — and outlining next week's operational priorities

What You Bring:

• Minimum 8-10 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience, preferably in the building materials manufacturing sector.
• Bachelor's degree in business, Engineering, Manufacturing Management, or a related field; advanced education is an asset.
• Proven ability to manage plant operations, lead cross-functional teams, and develop high-performing talent.
• Strong financial acumen and experience with budget development, forecasting, and operational metrics.
• Demonstrated success in implementing lean processes, process improvements, and performance-based culture.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and change management skills.
• A strategic mindset paired with a practical, hands-on leadership approach
