Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Fire Weather Support Lead, the Fire Weather Support assists the fire weather program through the digital collection, quality control and plotting/archiving/processing/documenting of provincial weather observations and fire danger data. Extensive use of multiple GIS PC, FTS and Campbell Scientific software and large-scale plotter systems is required to generate products under strict daily schedules.
The position is also responsible for the preparation of a live on-line meeting weather briefing which utilizes a province wide conference call account and uploading fire weather and danger data to the ministry website.
This position also responds to requests from stakeholders and the public for fire weather/danger information.
Candidates must be willing to work on a scheduled shift including weekends and/or evenings.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Two (2) year technical diploma in a related field, or equivalent as described below.
- One (1) year of related experience.
- All candidates must be 18 years of age or older as of March 15, 2026, or prior to their start date.
Equivalencies
Directly related education and experience may be considered on a one‑for‑one basis, as follows:
- one year of experience for one year of education or
- one year of education for one year of experience.
Assets
- Science and mathematics courses would be considered an asset.
- Post secondary education in earth or natural resource and/or extensive technical experience is highly desirable.
- Several years of experience in an operational weather office environment in a support role, and basic computer programing would be beneficial.
- Additional on-the-job training or continuing education may be considered in lieu of experience.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel spreadsheets, word processing, PowerPoint.
Additional Requirements
The following conditions are not required at time of application, but must be provided prior to start date:
- Verification of valid Class 5 (or equivalent) Driver’s License
- Driver’s Abstract (minimum 3-years), showing a driving record of seven (7) demerits or less. Driver’s Abstract is required to be obtained within 30 days prior to your start date.
- Proof of certified Defensive Driving Course (DDC). The Canada Safety Council must endorse the DDC.
- Current First Aid Certification (Standard First Aid with Level C CPR).
Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.

This competition is recruiting for a seasonal wage position with weekly hours of work of up to 36.25 hours.
The estimated term of employment is three (3) to eight (8) months during the wildfire season, anticipated to run from April 1, 2026, to October 31, 2026. This is a seasonal position, with the contract renewable annually during the fire season, subject to performance and operational requirements.

What We Offer
Wage employees receive an additional 11.6% to regular wage earnings, in lieu of paid holidays and vacation leave, calculated as follows:
- 5.6% in lieu of paid statutory holidays
- 6.0% in lieu of annual vacation pay
