We're looking for a Controllership and Risk Advisor to lead key initiatives that support sound financial practices, risk management, and strategic decision-making. About the job As a Controllership and Risk Advisor , you'll play a key role in strengthening the Ministry's internal control environment and supporting sound financial stewardship, accountability, and risk management practices. Working closely with ministry leadership, program areas, auditors, and central agencies, you will help assess and improve internal controls, support enterprise assurance processes, and provide expertise on risk and compliance matters. This aligns closely with the ministry's Internal Control Framework, Certificate of Assurance process, audit activities, and risk management responsibilities.

In this role, you will:

• plan and execute testing of the Ministry's Internal Control Framework, including Entity Level Controls (ELCs), Operational Level Controls (OLCs), and Information Technology General Controls (ITGCs)

• assess the design and effectiveness of internal controls, identify control gaps and risks, and recommend practical mitigation strategies to strengthen financial stewardship and compliance

• coordinate and support internal and external audits, acting as a liaison with the Ontario Internal Audit Division and the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario, and assisting management in responding to audit recommendations

• support the Ministry's annual Certificate of Assurance process, including internal control reporting, issue tracking, agency attestations, and preparation of assurance documentation

• contribute to enterprise risk management and fraud risk reporting by analyzing risks, monitoring trends, and preparing reports and recommendations for senior management

• evaluate business processes and control frameworks to ensure compliance with government directives, policies, and financial management requirements

• prepare briefing materials, reports, and presentations that support informed decision-making on controllership, risk, audit, and compliance issues

• build awareness of controllership, risk management, and internal control requirements by developing guidance materials, process documentation, and training resources across the ministry What you bring to the team
