Job Summary

The Professional Practice Advisor (PPA) is responsible for leading quality assurance initiatives, developing professional practice standards, and ensuring excellence in service delivery across multiple disciplines, including but not limited to nursing, Public Health Inspectors (PHIs), Registered Dental Hygienists, and pharmacists. The role supports professional practice across the division by guiding documentation standards, overseeing policy and protocol development, leading quality improvement initiatives, and supporting programmatic training and orientation.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain professional documentation standards informed by current evidence and best practices.
• Lead divisional quality assurance initiatives such as audits and provide actionable follow-up with Supervisors regarding concerns and training needs.
• Provide consultative support on professional practice issues across all regulated health professions within the division.
• Participate in and represent the Division at Department-level Professional Practice Working Groups (PPWG) and Professional Practice Council meetings.
• Review and critically appraise literature to identify evidence-base practices.
• Support development of orientation and ongoing training programs.
• Develop infrastructure and support systems for nursing student preceptorship and mentorship programs.
• Act as the divisional lead to support developing, maintaining, and implementing policies, and procedures.
• Lead the interpretation and application of Ministry guidance and professional standards into actionable program policies and procedures.
• Oversee quality improvement projects with a focus on data-driven outcomes.
• In collaboration with the Divisional leadership team, assess and monitor risk and develop risk management strategies.
• Support Supervisors with conducting Medical Directive audits and assist in compiling the Medical Directive Report for the Associate Medical Officer of Health (AMOH).
• Support analysis and follow-up of medication incidents according to established procedures and frameworks.

Duties and Responsibilities Continued

• Lead divisional projects using evidence-informed change management and project management methodologies.
• Facilitate effective stakeholder engagement and group facilitation.
• Provide external communication support for divisional programs and initiatives.
• Assist the Director in liaising with the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) and other bargaining groups as required.
• Participate in on-call duties as outlined in relevant policies and procedures.

Skills & Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in a health-sciences discipline or Master’s degree in related field (for example, Nursing, Science, MBA) or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of five (5) years of clinical knowledge in divisional subject matter required.
• Demonstrated expertise in quality assurance, professional standards, and clinical documentation.
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, professional practice standards, and Ministry directives.
• Experience in project management, change management, and stakeholder facilitation.
• Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in data analysis and quality improvement tools and methodologies.
