Service Supervisor – Role Overview

The Service Supervisor leads a high‑performing team of technicians, ensuring every repair is completed with exceptional safety, speed, and quality. This role oversees all shop operations—workflow coordination, bay management, parts readiness, and final quality checks. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with strong technical expertise, proven experience in fast‑paced service or manufacturing environments, and the ability to elevate team performance while maintaining uncompromising safety and quality standards.

Safety Leadership

• Lead and champion a healthy, safe work environment, ensuring all safety standards, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements are communicated, implemented, and followed.
• Facilitate daily review meetings and scheduled pre‑job, mid‑job, and post‑job reviews.
• Ensure compliance with NSC through proper inspections of trucks, track/identify required repairs, and maintain hours‑of‑service compliance, load securement, and supporting documentation.
• Conduct pre‑job meetings to review scope of work and binder accuracy, identifying safety opportunities for future work.
• Conduct post‑job reviews and final inspections; confirm controls identified on JHAs are used and updated with job progression.
• Lead regular scheduled safety meetings and ensure employees possess the necessary safety training.

People Leadership

• Manage day‑to‑day leadership of staff: recruitment, selection, orientation, coaching, mentoring, and employee engagement.
• Provide performance feedback and support growth and development opportunities.
• Conduct performance conversations and give regular feedback to technicians.

Quality – Service Right the First Time

• Spend at least 80% of time on the shop floor to confirm scope of work aligns with customer expectations and identify key communication milestones.
• Promptly resolve tooling, parts, and technical issues to avoid impacting customer service commitments.
• Maintain quality daily time and service reports, cross‑over reports, and field‑to‑shop transfers.

Repair Process Management

• Determine appropriate tooling for jobs in collaboration with technicians and CAT SIS.
• Understand warranty processes, identify warrantable failures, and coordinate 3rd‑party requirements and availability.
• Review inspection findings versus scope of work/complaint and provide necessary technical information to customer‑facing positions.

Quantity – Manage Productivity

• Ensure technicians and apprentices are aware of bays/jobs for the day or shift and any critical issues.
• Measure and manage technician productivity.
• Determine manpower availability, allocate technicians as needed, and assign additional staff if required.
• Conduct mid‑job reviews at 60% completion, communicate job changes to technicians.
• Provide guidance by assigning work priorities to technicians, overseeing job quality and productivity.

Qualifications & Experience

• Strong desire to lead and manage people.
• Effective leadership and supervisory skills.
• Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification.
• Minimum 4 years of experience with Caterpillar equipment/engines.
• Strong business acumen.
