The Opportunity

Nova Scotia Power's 3-year rotational Engineer-in-Training program is designed to develop technical and leadership skills, preparing participants to become future technical and people leaders who help shape the future of our company and the service we provide our customers. Throughout this three-year program, EITs will continue to develop their knowledge base by working with a variety of teams across the business, including the operational areas of Energy Delivery. Upon completion of the program, you will have fulfilled 36 months of engineering experience required toward obtaining your Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation.

Energy Delivery

As an EIT in Energy Delivery , you may work across a variety of teams involved in the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of transmission and distribution lines, as well as substations. You will contribute to monitoring and improving system performance, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources. Through this work, you will help enhance the reliability of Nova Scotia's electricity system and the experience of our customers.

We are currently looking to fill six (6) Engineer-In-Training positions as part of our EIT Rotational Program for Energy Delivery to start work in June 2027 . In this role you will mainly work out of Halifax Regional Municipality with some travel to other areas of the province as required.

Key elements of this role include:

Engineering Design & Technical Work

• Prepare plans, designs, calculations, cost estimates, and bills of materials for a variety of engineering projects.
• Complete tasks in accordance with established codes, standards, engineering practices, drawings, and specifications.
• Perform routine technical surveys, inspections, and assessments.
• Support design, maintenance, and improvement of systems related to the transmission and distribution of electricity.
• Contribute to monitoring and improving system performance and reliability.

Program Participation & Rotations

• Participate in rotational assignments across a variety of roles and locations within Energy Delivery (i.e. Field Operations, Major Projects, Reliability, and Asset Management)
• Gain experience in both office and field-based engineering work.
• Work alongside engineers and technical staff supporting electricity transmission and distribution.
• Contribute to projects involving system planning, risk mitigation, and project tracking.
• Participate in professional development activities, including semi-annual learning sessions and mentorship opportunities.

Operations Support & Response

• Support operational activities related to electricity delivery for our customers.
• Respond to storm events and participate in power restoration efforts as required.
• Travel as necessary to support operational and project requirements.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

• Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations.
• Promote and ensure personal safety and the safety of co-workers.
• Comply with organizational policies, including safety-sensitive requirements.
• Support environmental performance in alignment with environmental management system processes and initiatives.

These skills will make you successful:

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical and Industrial) with graduation aligned with program start timing.
• Registered member or eligible for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
