The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and the Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre are inviting applications for the position of an Academic Gastroenterologist. The successful candidate will be eligible for a full-time academic appointment with a position description as a Clinician Teacher (CT) or Clinician in Quality and Innovation, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. The Expected start date is September 1, 2026, or another mutually agreeable date thereafter.
We are seeking a physician who will deliver and foster excellence in academic gastroenterology. The successful candidate will join the Division of Gastroenterology, which currently has 7 full time members. The successful candidate should have clinical expertise in advanced therapeutic endoscopy and complex gastrointestinal conditions, and be qualified to perform high quality upper and lower endoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic EUS, ERCP, and EMR/ESD. The position is expected to be 80% clinical, 10% teaching related activities and 10% administrative duties. Clinical duties will include 25% general GI and 75% endoscopic oncology and advanced therapeutic endoscopy.
Advanced training in quality or innovation, together with evidence of scholarly achievement (such as peer-reviewed publications, presentations, or awards), is required for the CQI position. For the CT position, applicants must demonstrate advanced training and achievement in teaching and education, such as a strong track record of teaching, awards, or education scholarship. Proficiency in English is required.
The successful candidate will join the Division of Gastroenterology which provides inpatient consultation service and ambulatory care, including gastrointestinal endoscopy. Responsibilities will include excellent clinical care of both in-patients and out-patients, liaison with primary care, supervision of trainees in clinical care setting, formal teaching and scholarly achievements. The primary location of practice is Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. Canada.
The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, or equivalent, and have or be eligible for certification in Gastroenterology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The successful candidate must have or be eligible for medical licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The successful applicant will have completed advanced training in education or teaching as well as fellowship training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy.
Estimated compensation will be in the range of $350,000-$500,000 commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. The candidate will also be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
