If you require accessibility accommodation, please contact the Human Resources Department View email address on ca.edajobs.com Position Summary Under the direction of Operations Manager, the incumbent acts as a leader of a group of Food Service employees, ensuring customer satisfaction for Victoria University. The incumbent is responsible for: assisting in staff supervision; monitoring food quality and service; achieving a proactive and organized approach to food & beverage services, retail sales, catered functions, ensuring health, safety and sanitation guidelines are followed; ensuring proper service of alcohol; receiving and remitting cash at bars; assist in ordering and inventory controls, ensuring an orderly appearance of the workplace; promoting good customer relations; ensuring the proper safe working order of equipment. Duties Staff Supervision

• Address customer concerns/complaints with tact, good judgment, discretion; exercises creativity in coming up with solutions to problems.
• Deals with staff concerns/complaints with tact and discretion, interpreting and applying the terms of the collective agreement, and referring non-routine issues to the Manager as appropriate.
• Supervises Functions. Ensures the function sheet was interpreted properly and is clearly communicated to the staff.
• Anticipation and advanced preparation of the set-up requirements for catered functions
• Coordinates the delivery and set-up of all supplies, equipment and food needed for the function by the indicated service time. Ensures cleanup is done properly.
• Inspects the work of the group and directs corrections as needed.
• Ensures staff is working within Victoria University safety standards and Food Service guidelines.
• Reports on the attendance and performance of the group. Communicates to the Customer Service Manager any issues that may arise in the workplace concerning the overall performance of the Food Service staff.
• Communicates staff problems to the Customer Service Manager.
• Assists Customer Service Manager with assigning of staff according to workload and special functions, modifying work schedule as needed.
• Ensures proper alcohol inventory is completed before and after the function. Monitors guest consumption of alcohol.
• Occasional supervision of student meals at Burwash Dining Hall as needed.

Workplace Supervision

• Monitors workplace cleanliness and appearance at all times.
• Ensures the facility checklists are completed daily. Inspections will include cleanliness and safety issues of the facility, and equipment.
• Ensures that Equipment and appliances are in working order, place service calls including University's Fiix requests if required and inform management.
• Ensures organization and maintenance and stock levels in all customer areas including with vending facilities.
• Monitors portion control and food quality. Checks food for temperature, freshness and ensure safe food handling procedures. Corrects problems as they occur.
• Ensures minimum leftovers by monitoring ordering from kitchen, reports excessive wastage to management and suggest adjustments.
• Help place orders for food, beverages and supplies including using online ordering platforms, receiving, and storing using principles of HACCP and report anomalies to management.
• Ensures equipment and appliances are cleaned and sanitized according to WHMIS legislation and Health and Safety Codes.
• Create and display updated signage related to business hours, prices, menus, food labels and post University's messages on communications board.
• Ensures Catering Prep is accomplished, catering checklists are maintained, staff are assigned duties before service, operations are carried out as Events sheet and consumption is provided to management.
• Pre-service huddles are conducted both in dining hall as well as catering, staff are informed of health and safety risks, adjustments in breaks and duties.
• Complete knowledge of POS and cashier desk operations
• In absence of management, be able to find replacement for sick calls using staff availability and contact list located in shared folder.
• Ensures garbage disposal follows recycling program in effect and is in the appropriate disposal area.

Other Duties

• Participates with team to develop and improve services to our customers and promote staff motivation.
• Assist management with health and safety inspection of the facility and initiate an incident report in case of accident.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required: Education A diploma in Hospitality and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience Food Services experience, preferably in a unionized environment. Knowledge of current food service industry trends. Other Ability to maintain co-operative working relationships with staff and customers. Tact in dealing with people and ability to lead. Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written). Physical ability to perform duties described and to use indicated equipment. Has knowledge of current Food Service industry trends. WHMIS, Smart Serve, Basic First Aid, Food Safety program training an asset. Computer skills: word, excel, outlook, online ordering.
