General Carpenter – Pre-Board & Renovation

Ultimate Renovations is looking for an experienced General Carpenter with strong residential renovation and pre-board experience to join our team.

With over four decades of experience delivering award-winning renovations throughout Calgary, we are looking for someone who takes pride in their workmanship, understands the details that need to be addressed before drywall, and is comfortable working throughout multiple stages of a renovation project.

This role is ideal for a well-rounded carpenter who can move between demolition, framing, pre-board preparation, finishing work, deficiencies, and general site requirements.

Responsibilities

As a General Carpenter, your responsibilities will include:

• Complete back framing, blocking, backing, bulkheads, framing corrections, and other preparation required before insulation and drywall


• Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and site conditions to confirm framing is complete and ready for the next stage of construction


• Complete detailed pre-board checks, including:
  
  
  
  • Confirming required backing and blocking has been installed
  
  
  • Checking wall and ceiling framing for straightness and alignment
  
  
  • Confirming door openings, niches, cabinetry locations, millwork details, and ceiling features are properly framed
  
  
  • Reviewing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing rough-ins for visible conflicts with framing, cabinetry, fixtures, or finishes
  
  
  • Completing required framing corrections and communicating outstanding items to the Project Manager
  
  


• Complete selective and full demolition while protecting areas of the home that are to remain


• Install dust protection, floor protection, temporary walls, and other site-protection measures


• Perform finish carpentry, including installation and adjustment of doors, casing, baseboard, mouldings, hardware, panels, backing, and miscellaneous trim details


• Complete drywall repairs and minor patching when required


• Complete deficiency, warranty, and project closeout work to a high standard


• Assist with general site work, including material handling, temporary work, minor repairs, and site cleanup


• Identify site issues early and communicate them clearly before work is covered or subsequent trades proceed


• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas


• Protect clients' homes, belongings, and completed finishes at all times


• Follow company procedures, building-code requirements, and health and safety standards


• Represent Ultimate Renovations professionally when interacting with clients, trades, suppliers, and other team members

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on residential construction or renovation experience


• Strong framing and pre-board knowledge


• Experience completing blocking, backing, framing corrections, bulkheads, and detailed framing preparation


• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project details


• Strong understanding of residential construction sequencing


• Ability to identify potential conflicts between framing, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, and finishes


• Experience with demolition, site protection, and working within occupied homes


• Experience with finish carpentry, including doors, casing, baseboard, mouldings, and hardware


• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship


• Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with Project Managers and other team members


• Reliable, punctual, organized, and accountable


• Comfortable completing a variety of tasks throughout different stages of a renovation


• Access to a range of carpentry tools required to complete the work


• Formal carpentry training or Journeyperson certification is considered an asset


• Portfolio or examples of completed work are an asset
