Pet Handlers ensure the safety and well-being of animals under their care. Responsibilities include feeding, grooming, exercising pets, and maintaining clean environments. They also manage behavioral training and provide companionship to animals.

Responsibilities:

  • Feed and water animals on a regular schedule
  • Clean cages and enclosures to maintain a safe and healthy environment
  • Handle and restrain animals as necessary for medical or grooming procedures
  • Monitor animals for signs of illness or injury and report to appropriate staff
  • Exercise animals and provide enrichment activities
  • Provide basic grooming such as brushing and bathing
  • Assist with adoptions and provide customer service to potential adopters
  • Administer medications or treatments as directed by veterinary staff

Requirements:

  • Must have experience handling various types of pets including dogs, cats, birds, and small animals
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy pets (up to 50 lbs) is required
  • Must be patient and able to handle pets with behavioral issues
  • Good communication skills to be able to interact with pet owners and provide them with updates
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Knowledge of basic pet care and nutrition is a plus
  • Ability to clean and maintain the facility and equipment to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for the pets
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; certification in pet handling or related field is a plus.
