Pet Handlers ensure the safety and well-being of animals under their care. Responsibilities include feeding, grooming, exercising pets, and maintaining clean environments. They also manage behavioral training and provide companionship to animals.
Responsibilities:
- Feed and water animals on a regular schedule
- Clean cages and enclosures to maintain a safe and healthy environment
- Handle and restrain animals as necessary for medical or grooming procedures
- Monitor animals for signs of illness or injury and report to appropriate staff
- Exercise animals and provide enrichment activities
- Provide basic grooming such as brushing and bathing
- Assist with adoptions and provide customer service to potential adopters
- Administer medications or treatments as directed by veterinary staff
Requirements:
- Must have experience handling various types of pets including dogs, cats, birds, and small animals
- Ability to lift and carry heavy pets (up to 50 lbs) is required
- Must be patient and able to handle pets with behavioral issues
- Good communication skills to be able to interact with pet owners and provide them with updates
- Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
- Knowledge of basic pet care and nutrition is a plus
- Ability to clean and maintain the facility and equipment to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for the pets
- High school diploma or equivalent is required; certification in pet handling or related field is a plus.
