How to become a Lifeguard

Lifeguards must possess excellent communication, observation, and critical thinking skills to prevent and respond effectively to emergencies, ensuring the safety of individuals in aquatic environments, while also continuously enhancing expertise through ongoing training and certifications.

Hard skills:

  1. Able to identify drowning victims quickly and accurately
  2. Possess strong swimming skills
  3. Proficient in the use of CPR and first aid procedures
  4. Knowledge of water rescue equipment and techniques
  5. Ability to remain calm and collected in emergency situations
  6. Excellent communication skills
  7. Ability to give clear instructions and directions
  8. Competent in basic life support and defibrillation procedures

Soft skills:

  1. Interpersonal Communication Skills - Ability to clearly communicate with swimmers, colleagues and supervisors
