CBC News is looking for an experienced journalist to join our digital team in Montreal.

At CBC in Quebec we focus on finding the angles that matter to our audience and telling stories that are rooted in our English-speaking communities across Quebec. CBC Montreal is a multiplatform newsroom where our original and breaking news coverage is driven by the digital desk on mobile social and video streaming this role you will play an integral role in the accurate and timely delivery of live and on-demand news through text live pages video and audio.

We are looking for a journalist who demonstrates exceptional skill in going beyond the headlines to bring more depth and context to CBCs digital platforms. You would be primarily assigned to report write and edit for digital publishing and therefore must be an excellent writer and editor. You should be excited about video storytelling on our owned-and-operated and social platforms and be on top of the audience needs in those spaces. We are looking for a journalist who is tapped into local communities to listen and bring their voices forward. We deliver trusted journalism that is inclusive innovative helpful and bold.

You understand the diverse and changing population in Quebec and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

In this role you will have an uncompromising attention to detail and accuracy and ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair balanced accurate thoughtful and immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.

For reference purposes you will be assigned to the Quebec digital news team based in Montreal. The schedule is rotation-based shift work.

Pitch and produce original and engaging stories with digital and social audiences top of mind.
Respond quickly to breaking and developing news including live events.
Write stories based on your own reporting but also collaborate with other CBC journalists and current affairs teams.
Package stories with strong headlines photos video audio graphics and links to deepen engagement.
Prepare original stories for broadcast platforms and collaborate with other journalists for multi-platform rollouts.
Assist in curating the website and news app lineup.
Prepare and post content on social media channels.
Gather and edit photos and videos.

Bachelors degree or the equivalent
Minimum (3) three years of journalism experience or equivalent

In-depth knowledge of Quebec news and current events with a strong level of general knowledge.
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Ability to generate original enterprise journalism.
Comfortable and willing to experiment with new and innovative storytelling approaches on digital and social platforms.
Strong visual storytelling skills including photos graphics and video.
Clear and creative ability to write headlines and package stories.
Fluent in English.
Good comprehension of written and spoken French.
Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices.
Knowledge of radio and video communications an asset.
Willing to work on a rotation basis must be flexible to work all shifts and irregular hours depending on the assignment.
