As a Community Peace Officer, you will be appointed by the Public Security & Emergency Services Ministry to enforce a range of municipal, provincial, and federal legislation, with a special focus on regulatory enforcement in parks and other public spaces. This is a vital public-facing role that involves extensive community engagement, from responding to complaints to providing education, presentations and enforcement when necessary. This role requires you to navigate complex and sometimes volatile situations involving both people and animals with professionalism, compassion, and resilience.

Conduct proactive and reactive patrols in parks, the river valley, and other public spaces, responding to complaints and officer-initiated events

Investigate complaints related to municipal bylaws and provincial acts, including the Public Spaces Bylaw, Traffic Bylaw, Trespass to Premises Act, and the Gaming, Liquor, & Cannabis Act

Engage individuals, educate the public, encourage compliance, and enforce where necessary

Investigate and assess complaints and apply appropriate discretion and enforcement actions, which may include Warnings, Violation Notices, Provincial Violation Tickets, Municipal tickets, and MGA Orders

Gather evidence, prepare detailed reports for court, and provide clear, professional testimony in legal proceedings

Conduct high-visibility patrols across diverse environments, utilizing specialized vehicles like quads, side-by-sides, and watercraft

Act as a critical liaison between internal City departments and external agencies such as the EPS, RCMP, Fish and Wildlife, and Transport Canada

Perform investigative duties, report writing, maintain detailed notes in Records Management Systems, and prepare disclosure packages

Operate watercraft in changing currents and shoreline conditions, ensuring regulatory compliance for river enthusiasts

Manage multiple and changing priorities while ensuring deadlines are met for operational responsibilities and projects

Manage a variety of complex social issues, demographics, cultures, and multi-generational perspectives

Completion of a two-year diploma in Police Studies, Security, Criminology, or a related field, plus a minimum of three (3) years of strong customer service experience, including at least one (1) year of diverse law enforcement experience OR

Completion of Grade 12 and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a recognized law enforcement environment OR

Completion of Grade 12 and have been a serving Police Officer in Canada; Assets:

Completion/certificates for Verbal Judo, Strategic Communications or other de-escalation techniques, and Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) training

Experience and training in addressing members of vulnerable or marginalized groups

Experience and training with ATV/UTVs and motorized vessels

Experience with traffic enforcement and/or credentials in resource/wildlife management

Experience with APIS, CAD, MOVES, CORES, or SPIN

Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion

Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtain and retain the Provincial Community Peace Officer I Designation and associated certifications

Obtain and retain bylaw enforcement officer status

Work Environment:

Shift work requirements: evenings, weekends, and holidays

This role works primarily in an outdoor setting with exposure to extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and environmental hazards

Public-facing role requiring interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds and emotional states

Salary Range: $40.445 - $46.180 (Hourly); $
