The Environmental Programs and Remediation Branch administers the Orphaned and Abandoned Mines, Environmental Liabilities Sites, and Quarry Rehabilitation programs. These initiatives focus on remediation, site management, and rehabilitation to reduce environmental and health risks, promote public safety, protect infrastructure, and lower provincial environmental obligations.
The position leads environmental assessment, resource management and ecological planning functions on a province-wide basis for the branch. The position coordinates a variety of branch priority projects that contribute to the returning of lands to a natural functioning ecosystem post-remediation for orphaned and abandoned mines, liability contaminated sites, and aggregate quarries.

Post-secondary education in natural resources management, environmental science, landscape planning, conservation biology, and/or ecosystem management programs. An equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field may be accepted.
Thorough knowledge of ecological principles, environmental effects mitigation and impact assessment concepts.
Ability to foster effective relationships with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and the public.
Strong written communication skills with demonstrated ability to write reports and plain language documents.
Proven ability to plan, organize, coordinate, implement and evaluate complex projects involving interdepartmental, intergovernmental and external stakeholders.
Comprehensive knowledge of Federal and Provincial legislation related to environmental approvals.
Functional use of GIS applications.
Experience in contract management.
Experience in site remediation or rehabilitation.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in French.
Must be able to travel to work sites within the province by ground, air transportation and boat, and stay overnight as required
Must be able to work in an outdoor rough terrain environment in remote locations, including potential exposure to construction equipment, slip-trip-fall hazards, sharp objects, deep water, extreme heat and cold, dust, odours, insects, and vegetation
Must be able to work occasional extended hours or periods of time as project demands
Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position including standing, walking, sitting, bending/lifting, and carrying up to 25 kg and wear any required personal protective equipment
Must have a valid full Class 5 Manitoba Driver's Licence
