We are looking for a Senior Safety Engineer to join our team! You will be reporting to the Manager - RAMS, and you will be responsible for safety activities relating to new transit vehicles, charging infrastructure, system acquisitions and applications.

You will work closely with external suppliers as a project-specific hazard controller in verification and validation of processes to ensure compliance with the system assurance requirements and performance of safety compliance audits, and with internal customers in development and acceptance of solutions.

You will be responsible to provide safety engineering support services relating to new transit vehicles, system acquisitions, charging infrastructure, and applications through monitoring, validating, and auditing supplier's System Safety and Assurance Plans and other plans developed to support TTC policies and the Commission-wide System Safety Plan.

You will develop, manage and implement Vehicle and System Safety Certification Plans and Safe Operating Procedures in conjunction with suppliers; conducts risk assessments; tests safety equipment; You will coordinate all activities relating to assigned safety and systems engineering aspects of transit vehicles, charging infrastructure, and equipment acquisition projects and programs.

You will develop and collaborate in the development of specifications, standards and System Safety Certification Plans and System Safety Program Plans for various transit vehicles applications.

You will prepare, review, monitor and manage project-specific hazard logs, in the capacity of a hazard controller.

You will coordinate and audit vehicle design, manufacture and commissioning to ensure compliance with safety legislation, standards, specifications and operating protocols.

You will conduct safety compliance audits to ensure that safety components on new vehicles and charging systems meet or exceed engineering specifications,

You will also liaise with internal stakeholder departments and suppliers as necessary to ensure smooth implementation and transfer of knowledge and responsibility, including development of Standard Operating Procedures.

Additionally, this role may involve travel within Ontario, Canada, and worldwide throughout the stages of new transit vehicles and equipment design, development, manufacturing, delivery, etc. Demonstrate specialized expertise and knowledge in the assigned field

Identify and minimize risk of Health and Safety issues

Your education will consist of a completed university degree in Engineering, combined with several years of transit industry experience, OR a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.

You must be registered as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.

Your application will reveal comprehensive knowledge of safety and systems engineering principles and practices relating to transit vehicles.

Your application must reveal technical expertise with regards to risk assessment and hazard analysis, establishing and implementing System Safety Certification and Assurance Plans.

Your application will also reveal strong familiarity with heavy and light rail operations and maintenance methodology.

Your application will reveal demonstrated ability to motivate team, maintain a harmonious working environment with due regard for safety and quality standards and effectiveness in keeping within budget and time constraints.

Your application will also reveal abilities to co-ordinate all activities relating to assigned safety and systems engineering aspects of vehicle and/or equipment acquisition projects and programs.

You must have good level of computer literacy, in particular MS Word, Excel, Access Database, PowerPoint, and Project applications and Software Quality Management System packages.
