It is primarily a medium-security centre, with a rated capacity of 244 adult males. It also provides western Manitoba with short-term holding for young offenders and 8 adult females.
The Chaplain in the Centre maintains a visible presence, delivers pastoral care, provides religious services and sacramental ministries as appropriate, conducts religious education activities, community interpretation and integration of Chaplaincy into the life of the institution in line with the foundational spirit on which Chaplaincy is based for the purpose of promoting positive healthy change and to help reduce the risk of recidivism and reoffending.
