The Technical Project Manager plays a lead role in the project operation and delivery of a Cooperative Research Centre Project (CRC-P) between UNSW and industry partner MicroTau titled Shark Scales: Scale Manufacture of Shark Skin for Clean Aviation . This role provides integrated facility and laboratory management technical support and operational leadership for UNSWs roll-to-roll (R2R) printing capability and associated laboratories and is based in the School of Materials Science & Engineering.
This role is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of project milestones safe and compliant operation of the roll-to-roll printing facility effective engagement with internal and external users and the translation of scale-up printing technologies into pilot-scale manufacturing demonstrations. The position also oversees UNSW shared lab access training facility scheduling maintenance and compliance with UNSW governance safety and operational requirements..
Fixed Term 12 months
~ Full-time (35 hours per week)

Oversee and manage the day-to-day operation of the roll-to-roll printing pilot facility and associated laboratories to support delivery of the MicroTau CRC-P and related projects.
Partner with the CRC-P Project Team MicroTau and other external partners to monitor and report on progress of facility-dependent tasks and milestones; identify problems early and propose practical technically sound solutions to ensure project milestones can be met.
Lead the continuous improvement of facility processes documentation and user experience drawing on best practice from large-scale roll-to-roll manufacturing and scale-up environments.
Determine training requirements and then develop plan deliver and document safety and technical training for users of the roll-to-roll pilot line and other equipment in the laboratory.
Manage laboratory and facility access for both internal and external users.
Manage facility booking and scheduling systems for both internal and external users.
Ensure the pilot facility and associated laboratories operate in full compliance with UNSW safety protocols policies and regulatory obligations.
Ensure hazards and risks psychosocial and physical are identified and controlled for tasks projects and activities that pose a health and safety risk within your area of responsibility.
Postgraduate degree (or equivalent relevant experience) in Chemical Engineering Materials Science Materials Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Proven experience (minimum 5 years) working in university or comparable research facility management.
Demonstrated hands-on experience with scale-up of printing or coating technologies into pilot production or demonstration environments. Formal training certification or documented training record from a large-scale roll-to-roll OEM (e.g. roll-to-roll equipment manufacturer) in operation maintenance or process optimisation of R2R systems is desirable.
Strong knowledge of UNSW (or equivalent) safety protocols policies and safety regulations for laboratory and pilot-scale operations including chemical mechanical and electrical safety.
Demonstrated experience in planning delivering and recording user training in technical and safety topics including maintaining robust training records and competency registers.
Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders including academic staff professional staff students and external industry partners.
Knowledge of university procurement procedures relevant to facility operations including procurement of consumables and chemicals coordination of maintenance and service contracts and support for equipment upgrades and cost-recovery arrangements for facility users.
Excellent time management skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities manage multiple concurrent tasks and meet competing deadlines using sound judgement and initiative.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team while also taking initiative and working independently to manage competing demands.
An understanding of and commitment to UNSWs aims objectives and values in action together with relevant policies and guidelines.
Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
