Summary Wai Wah Environmental is a Kitselas First Nation-owned environmental consulting firm that provides innovative solutions and quality results within a broad spectrum of ecological, cultural, and industrial fields. We are looking for an Intermediate Biologist to join our expanding team in an extensive array of initiatives, including, but not limited to oil and gas, mining, utility works, as well as terrestrial and aquatic habitat restoration.

Role Profile Details

Title: Intermediate Biologist

Contract Term/Status: Permanent, Full Time

Compensation: $35.00-$48.00/hr

Location: Terrace, British Columbia (BC); candidates based out of Prince Rupert may be considered.

Environment: Office (30%) and field (70%) based position, with field work occurring year-round. Position requirements may vary seasonally and will depend on project workload and technical oversight requirements.

Work Conditions: Schedules are dictated by our clients. The starting schedule will be 14 days on/14 days off, with the potential for 10 to 14 hours daily. Work conditions require the ability to conduct and supervise fieldwork in remote outdoor locations, including during inclement weather.

Role Profile Description

The Intermediate Biologist will organize and lead various components (field and office) of small and large scale environmental projects. Projects may occur within the utility, oil and gas, government, restoration, and private sectors, applying a broad range of disciplines in fields of ecology and natural resource management. The Intermediate Biologist will provide support and leadership in industrial environmental monitoring, water quality management, erosion and sediment control and prepare technical documents to support project planning and regulatory requirements.

Key duties include but are not limited to the following:

Independently collect, input, organize and analyze data, and plan/undertake/lead field activities, including baseline assessment and field layout programs, salvage programs, and various surveys in different fields (i.e., vegetation, fish and fish habitat, wildlife and wildlife habitat, species at risk, watercourses and wetlands, and ecological communities).

Independently prepare, coordinate and/or review technical reports and permit applications associated with regulatory approvals and/or compliance requirements.

Assist with developing proposals and cost estimates and support procurement initiatives.

Support budget tracking/management.

Ensure project deliverables meet technical requirements as defined by applicable law and client expectations.

Act as a Lead Environmental Monitor on construction projects involving natural resource management, including instream works and works in sensitive environments.

Independently prepare written reports documenting results of desktop and field assessments to support project requirements.

Anticipate and communicate when a task cannot be completed on time or on budget and develop solutions with the management team.

Registered Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio) in good standing with the College of Applied Biology with over five (5) years of demonstrated experience in providing technical leadership on small and large scale infrastructure projects in BC.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

Effective communication (written and verbal) with teams of professionals and clients/regulators.

Able to conduct physically demanding work in adverse weather and conditions.

Demonstrated experience in obtaining regulatory approvals and permits as they relate to projects in the environmental industry.

Demonstrated experience in independently preparing and delivering technical reports.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel etc.).

Occupational First Aid Level 1.

Valid Class 5 Drivers License.

Proficiency in GIS (ArcPro and/or QGIS) considered an asset.

Conducting and leading avian nest sweeps considered an asset.
