About Junction Recovery Community Centres: Junction is an inclusive community of diverse people with lived/living experience of substance use and recovery that offers substance use recovery services to adults 19+ in North Vancouver. Services are free and include a variety of groups, activities & one-on-one supports in-person or online. As a Recovery Advocate, you will play a crucial role in helping people in recovery build connections, resiliency, and wellness through the Junction!

Casual

We provide housing and a range of support services to adults with low or no income who have few, if any, housing or support options. Because the people we serve have challenges meeting basic needs and goals, we place minimal barriers between them and our services. Shifts are based on availability from Tuesday to Saturday

Shifts are 7.5 hours in length

The Recovery Advocate reports to the Site Manager and works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society, including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics. The Program Resource Worker carries out a variety of duties related to the operation of the facility including accepting referrals based on predetermined criteria, intake and orienting guests, providing support that meets the mental, developmental and physical disabilities of the guests. This position deals with the public, other service agencies and professionals involved in the support of the guests.

Provides assistance to guests through methods such as identifying and sharing information on a variety of Lookout or external community/government resources including services providing: housing, meals, health, treatment, legal and financial needs. Participates in and oversees various client-focused social and recreational activities.

Administer medication to clients and provides medication reminders, in accordance with established policy.

This may include accompanying guests to other sites for services.

Completes and maintains related manual and computerized records and documentation by performing duties such as documenting interactions with guests, maintaining statistical data, completing individual files, medication charts and accounting forms.

Assists guests with self-care skills through methods such as providing support and encouragement to guests to maintain personal hygiene, housekeeping, meal planning and preparation, financial obligations and appointments.

Defuses volatile situations through methods such as non-violent crisis intervention techniques. Assists in providing orientation to new employees or students by performing duties such as familiarizing individuals with the policies and procedures or equipment of the facility and/or work area and demonstrating work procedures. Provides direction to guest(s), volunteer(s) and/or community placements assigned to work area by performing duties such as demonstrating tasks, monitoring work, supporting guest(s), volunteer(s) and/or community placements in completing functions and maintaining their work and attendance schedules.

Sleeping during shifts is not permitted.

or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Familiarity with community resources; Must have current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate

Crisis Intervention Skills (CPI), Naloxone and Trauma Inform Practice training is an asset

Excellent communication, writing, documentation, and organizational skills

Ability to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environment

Criminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector required
