The Buyer purchases raw materials, components, plant supplies, fabricated components and negotiates for the best possible quantity, price, and delivery terms to ensure continuous smooth production in the plant. Must be able to negotiate and purchase goods to meet the requirements at the best price, delivery, and quality possible in accordance with the company’s ISO policies from requirements generated by the Material Requirements Planning System (MRP).

Purchase raw materials, components, plant supplies, fabricated components including materials with proper revision levels and negotiates for the best possible quantity, price, and delivery terms.
Convert SAP purchase requisitions into purchase orders.
Help to update inventory to ensure that stock is always kept at appropriate levels.
Purchase Engineering Department materials through purchase requisitions and works directly with Engineers to obtain information regarding these purchases.
Works closely with Direct Production (shop floor), Operational Excellence, Planning, Engineering, Sales, Service and Finance Departments.
Maintains supplier base, reviews existing suppliers, sources new suppliers, meet with suppliers as required. Provide analysis on costs and review cost reduction activities. Analyze market trends to make insightful buying decisions
Review and process claims against suppliers.
Help to coordinate logistics for transport and customers, establish delivery schedules, enforce fulfillment of contracts, and communicate with customers and suppliers to solve problems as required. Ability to provide phone coverage as needed.
Maintain and distribute a variety of reports and Key Performance Indicators.
Maintains Material Master Information.
Update stock and Kanban levels to meet demand & avoid stock out situations.
Post-secondary education or community college diploma with Supply Chain major. SCMP designation would be an asset
Minimum 2 years progressive experience in a purchasing role in a Manufacturing Environment
Must have SAP experience.
Knowledge of laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to corporate purchasing practices.
Strong writing skills for creating reports, correspondence, requests, and other documentation.
Demonstrated understanding of integrated supply chain and logistics concepts and theories.
Must be able to motivate and expedite work contracted to suppliers.
Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and clearly with suppliers, employees, and management.
Exceptional planning ability with strong analytical and interpretive skills.
Strong computer skills in the Windows environment and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
Work experience in international purchasing preferred.
A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, and conflict resolution.
Able to build and maintain relationships with corporate departments and vendors.
Able to convey information and ideas clearly and concisely to individuals or groups in an engaging manner that helps them understand and retain the message. Experience with purchasing electronic components, machined parts and sheet metal parts is an asset.
Ability to read Illustrated Parts Catalogues and other technical documents considered an asset.
Nuclear background experience considered an asset.
