The INRS Centre Urbanisation Culture Société is seeking applications for a professor position in cultural studies. The successful candidate will develop an original research program focused on analyzing contemporary cultural ecosystems, with particular attention to the forms and transformations of creative and/or cultural work.
This position aims to support research on the social, socioeconomic, territorial, and/or political conditions of work in cultural settings. Research should demonstrate a strong understanding of cultural studies in its theoretical, empirical, epistemological, and methodological dimensions. The successful candidate will actively contribute to the 2025–2030 scientific program of the Centre Urbanisation Culture Société, particularly (but not exclusively) Axis 2 – Reconfiguration of cultural and political agencies and Axis 3 – Digital transformations of knowledge, relations and practices. They will also collaborate with INRS research teams working in cultural domains and foster intersectoral research closely linked to cultural stakeholders.
The candidate must have expertise in cultural studies and demonstrate a record of achievements and publications offering theoretical and empirical contributions in this field. They will complement the Center’s multidisciplinary expertise by developing innovative research activities on topics such as:
professionalization, precarization, artistic or professional status, training or retraining;
emerging creative environments;
digital and technological transformations (data cultures, artificial intelligence, etc.);
organizational dynamics specific to cultural and creative employment sectors (professional associations, artist groups, intersectoral networks, etc.).
The candidate will secure funding for research activities through external grants from public and private organizations or partnerships with stakeholders. The candidate will contribute to teaching and supervising graduate students (Master and PhD) within UCS programs (all in French) and promote INRS nationally and internationally.
Education
~ PhD in cultural studies, sociology of culture, communication, cultural management, media studies, or any relevant field (anthropology, sociology of work, political science, history, etc.).

ability to conduct innovative research on cultural ecosystems and creative/cultural work;
teaching and graduate supervision skills;
ability to secure funding and lead interdisciplinary research projects; proficiency in French (spoken and written);
proficiency in English (spoken and written), as INRS collaborates internationally.

In accordance with the salary scale, salaries vary based on experience and training, ranging from a minimum of $ 100,863 for assistant positions to a maximum of $ 194,538 for full positions.
