Senior Backend Engineer (Machine Learning)

Feathery is the AI Operating & Decisioning system for financial services. Our customers — including Fortune 500s like Allstate — use Feathery to power mission-critical workflows such as customer onboarding, insurance underwriting and quoting, account openings, and advisor transitions.

We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to help build and scale the core infrastructure behind our document intelligence and workflow platform. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys designing reliable, high-performance systems and taking ownership of backend architecture in a high-growth B2B SaaS environment.
You’ll work closely with product, engineering, and customer-facing teams to deliver systems that are fast, resilient, and deeply aligned with customer needs.

Infrastructure, scalability, and performance optimization
Cross-functional collaboration across product and customer teams
Develop asynchronous pipelines and distributed systems for handling large volumes of data
Build and maintain infrastructure using AWS services and queueing systems (e.g., Optimize systems for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency
Data Processing & Platform Capabilities
Build systems for processing and transforming structured and unstructured data
Integrate external services such as OCR and AI models where appropriate
Improve reliability and throughput of document and data processing pipelines
Work closely with product to define requirements and ship impactful features
Collaborate with frontend and customer-facing teams to support new use cases
Help translate complex customer needs into scalable backend solutions
Contribute to product planning and technical scoping
Technical Leadership
Help improve code quality, testing, and deployment processes
4–7+ years of experience building and scaling backend systems

• Strong proficiency in backend frameworks such as Node.js, Django, or similar
• Experience designing distributed systems and asynchronous processing pipelines
• Solid experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure
• Strong understanding of system performance, reliability, and observability
• Experience building production-grade APIs and services
• Bonus

Experience building data processing or ETL pipelines
Familiarity with document processing, OCR, or AI/ML integrations
Background in financial services, insurance, or other data-intensive industries
