ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)
The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN) or the Texelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane in nearby Williams Lake BC and across the globe.

POSITION
The Outreach Worker provides culturally sensitive accountable and community-based support services to Williams Lake First Nation members using a strength-based and trauma-informed approach. Working within the Social Development Department this role focuses on non-crisis outreach relationship-building systems navigation and long-term follow-up support for individuals and families requiring assistance to access programs services and community resources.Through culturally grounded case management and outreach the Outreach Worker supports clients with problem-solving skill development referrals and practical assistance related to housing income supports appointments and community engagement. This role emphasizes continuity of care prevention and post-stabilization support and works collaboratively with internal programs and external service providers.
This role is not a crisis response position and does not provide emergency intervention. Instead it complements crisis services by supporting individuals before situations escalate and after stabilization ensuring sustained connection to appropriate supports.
Employment Type
Full time permanent position. 35 hours per week from 8:30am-4:30pm with a one-hour unpaid lunch.
Probation Period
3 months from the date of hire.
Education Required
~ Certificate or diploma in Human Service or related field.
Experience Required
Proven experience supporting individuals with complex needs in harm reduction conflict resolution etc.
Experience working with Indigenous families and communities.
Experience providing family support youth support social work or related field.
Trauma informed practice training crisis Intervention training suicide Prevention training or related certification.
Related education or training in mental illness/addictions/special needs and related issues.
Knowledge of current social issues related to homelessness mental illness and substance use are essential.
Overtime Status
Non-exempt.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative:
- Conduct scheduled meetings with clients in a professional respectful and supportive manner.
- Provide consistent follow-up with clients internal team members and community partners to support continuity of care.
- Provide post-stabilization follow-up for clients referred from health crisis or emergency services focusing on referrals advocacy and practical supports.
- Promote services offered by the Social Development Department and provide information and referrals to appropriate community programs resources and professionals.
- Liaise with external service providers professionals and agencies to support client goals and service coordination.
- Provide clients with information on community-based programs schedules and events.
- Assist with transportation appointment accompaniment and practical support as required to support client engagement.
- Maintain comprehensive accurate and timely case notes and documentation for all client interactions.
- Provide culturally competent services and demonstrate an understanding of the impacts of colonization intergenerational trauma and systemic barriers on Indigenous individuals families and communities.
Program Management:
- Work collaboratively with Social Development programs and other WLFN departments to support identified family and client needs.
- Maintain relevant records statistics and outcome data related to client engagement and service delivery.
- Prepare reports and provide updates to the Social Development Manager as required.
- Provide education mentorship and referrals to clients on identified needs and goals.
- Support the mission vision and values of Williams Lake First Nation in all aspects of service delivery.
- Contribute to the ongoing success of the department by participating in team planning meetings and related duties as assigned.
- Maintain open respectful and professional communication with the WLFN team and community partners.
- Adhere to WLFN policies and procedures including confidentiality privacy and code of conduct requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge
Knowledge of Williams Lake First Nation community traditions teachings culture protocols and practices.
Understanding of social determinants of health and community-based support models.
Knowledge of current social issues related to housing instability mental wellness substance use and family support.
Proficient use of information technologies including computers mobile devices Microsoft Office Suite online communication platforms and case documentation systems.
Skills And Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to think critically and act logically to evaluate situations solve problems and make decisions.
Ability to take directions and work independently.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to apply sound judgment and make decisions within the area often on short notice.
Ability to prioritize multi-task and organize work effectively and under pressure.
Excellent knowledge of technical documentation and best practices.
Exceptional familiarity with technology and remote desktop applications (MS Teams Zoom Outlook etc.)
