JOB OVERVIEW Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Human Resources Consultant .
Reporting to the Senior Manager HR Business Partners, this position is responsible for providing advice and guidance to line management and employees on various HR related matters, including collective agreements, labour relations, recruitment and selection, compensation, benefits, and performance management. Provide guidance to management on the administration of the sick leave plan, including medical leave of absence, referral for LTD consideration, vocational rehabilitation, Worker's Compensation, etc.
organizational structure, job evaluation, compensation, benefits and payroll administration, including related policies and procedures;
Access HR databases to report on trends and emerging issues. Gather statistics, complete studies, analyze and prepare reports on a variety of HR issues or procedures.
Contribute to continuous improvement and best practices to influence human resources strategies and be a driving force to support HR’s Service Delivery Model;
Responsible for developing or providing management with advice and services, staff planning, placement, promotion, performance management issues;
Keep up to date on training activities and available programs;
Initiate, develop, and deliver training courses;
University Degree or Post Secondary Education in Human Resources

  • 3+ years of experience as a HR Consultant, HR Advisor or HR Generalist. Sound knowledge of human resources principles, and processes and ability to provide advice and operational support on a wide range of HR matters.
  • Labour/employee relations experience in a unionized environment will be an asset
  • Commitment to high standards of procedural safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Willingness to travel locally between Durham region locations, as required.
  • CHRL designation or Masters Degree in Human Resources is considered an asset

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
