Job Title: Data Governance Analyst Location: Toronto, ON or London, ON (Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite)
Contract
The Data Governance Analyst will join the Enterprise Data Governance Team at Canada Life, supporting the implementation and operationalization of enterprise-wide data governance practices. This role plays a critical part in advancing the organization’s data strategy, with a strong focus on unstructured data under the DAME (Data Access Management & Exposure) initiative. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working with Canadian enterprises, strong analytical skills, and deep understanding of data governance, privacy, and data remediation.
Data Governance Support
Contribute to the development, enhancement, and ongoing maintenance of data governance roadmaps, processes, workflows, and frameworks.
Collaborate with technology, business, and compliance teams to ensure data governance activities are aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
&##Data Discovery & Remediation
Partner with the DME (Data Management & Engineering) team to analyze large volumes of unstructured data across multiple locations.
Classify, interpret, and triage discovered data elements for sensitivity, compliance, and business relevance.
Identify issues related to data governance, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
&##Risk Management & Compliance
Coordinate data quality initiatives and remediation activities.
Unstructured data repositories
Data Loss Prevention (DLP) systems
Encryption technologies and DAM (Data Access Management) tools
Validate classified data results, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Recommend and help drive corrective action plans.
&##Analyze datasets to identify trends, patterns, and potential risks.
Assess the quality of identified data and provide recommendations for improvement.
Support reporting, dashboarding, and milestone tracking for data governance initiatives.
5+ years of experience working with Canadian clients in data governance, data quality, or data management roles.
- Strong exposure to unstructured data, data remediation, and data classification.
- Practical understanding of privacy, data security, and regulatory compliance in the Canadian context.
- Experience with DLP tools, endpoint data discovery, PST/email analysis, and DAM tools.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with both technical and business stakeholders.
