Ecologist , you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.

Role

SLR Canada is looking for a full-time Ecologist to be based out of our Kamloops, BC office.

Responsibilities

Support monitoring programs, environmental assessments, and permitting related to aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem components.

Field work including environmental sampling and assessments: some local, and some remote requiring travel for up to two weeks or more at a time.

Plan and lead field programs using recognized protocols, including baseline environmental assessments, environmental overviews, environmental management planning, and species inventories, often in remote locations.

Mentor junior staff and field teams through technical guidance, review, and coaching, while promoting safe, efficient, and high-quality field programs.

Liaise between senior team members, clients, and stakeholders to ensure compliance and project objectives are met.

Environmental data entry, management, analysis, and report writing.

Assist in preparing baseline reports, environmental assessments, and environmental management plans that meet regulatory and client expectations.

The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

Qualifications/Education/Memberships

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in ecology, biology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Working toward full RPBio status.
  • 5+ years experience with field sampling and assessment methods.
  • Knowledge of BC species and ecosystems.
  • Availability and flexibility to travel for fieldwork.
  • Wilderness/backcountry experience; comfortable working in a remote field environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulations.
  • Proven project management experience, including scope, budget, schedule, and team coordination.
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and client relationship skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel, managing large datasets, and conducting analyses using R or other statistical software.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License in BC (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
