Service: Water Facilities & Treatment Services Branch: Water Production - West Branch Employment Type: 1 Full-time Permanent ,1 Full-time Temporary (Up to 2 years) Work Hours: 35.00 hours per week Affiliation: CIPP Salary Information: $93,764.58 - $114,097.62 annually (2025 rates of pay) Location: Brit Plant, 2731 Cassels Street City: Ottawa, ON Job Category: Planning and Infrastructure Application Close: 08/05/2025 JOB SUMMARY Operations Engineer (Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical, PC&IS) This position is for an Operations Engineer (Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical, PC&IS). The successful candidate would have experience with Electrical and Power, Controls & Information Systems. The mandate of Water Services is to provide treatment and distribution of a sustainable supply of high-quality drinking water and is committed to protecting the environment by collecting and treating wastewater for the health and prosperity of Ottawa. You are responsible for: reviewing, analyzing and optimizing the Plant's drinking water system* process operations that are of low to moderate complexity; preparing reports and documents (or components thereof) to meet Branch, regulatory and legislated requirements; and managing assigned projects.
~ Drinking water systems include surface water treatment plants, groundwater well treatment systems, treated water reservoirs, elevated tanks and pumping systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Completion of 4 year university degree in Engineering (Environmental, Chemical, Civil or Mechanical) or related discipline Minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial production environment, including experience in process design and/or operations and control CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES Licensed Professional Engineer (P.with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Ontario MOE Drinking Water Treatment Operator Certificate at the appropriate level is an asset KNOWLEDGE
Engineering theories, principles, concepts, methodologies and models
Process control and monitoring methods and technologies
Federal and provincial legislation, standards, regulations and guidelines pertaining to water treatment and quality
Water treatment, pumping stations, and water storage facilities operations
Computerized process control systems
MS Office Suite
CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Software) and the integration of data information from SCADA Systems
Project management techniques
Able to read and review engineering/technical reports, documents and drawings
Able to perform data analysis, formulate recommendations
Possess computer literacy in applications such as MS Office Suite, and data management applications
Possess strong documentation, report writing and presentation skills
Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.; Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
