Mental Health and Addictions Program-Adult inpatient and outpatient services
Part Time Psychologist
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday – 16-24 hours per week, 2-3 days (final schedule to be determined with successful applicant)
Reports to the Clinical Manager of the Adult Inpatient Mental Health program, and will work independently, and with multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient teams (i.e. Adult Inpatient Mental Health and Short-term Psychiatric Follow-up Clinic), with adults ages 18-65+ years. The successful candidate will be a member of a multidisciplinary team in the Adult Inpatient Mental Health (AIMH) program. AIMH provides assessment and stabilization services to adults who present with a range of acute mental health symptoms including psychosis, suicidal thinking, and emotional dysregulation. The psychology role on the multidisciplinary team will emphasis diagnostic assessment, consultation with team members, families, and community partners, and intervention using appropriate treatment modalities. In addition, psychology may complete diagnostic assessments and/or intervention for inpatients following discharge as they transition to outpatient services and the community.
Will evaluate and diagnose (within area of practice) psychological disorders, including mental health conditions, neurodevelopmental disorders, cognitive functioning, and personality disorders

  • Review complex and convergent data from multiple sources
  • Plan, administer, score and interpret psychological tests appropriate to the referral question
  • Will work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team along with other health care providers and community services
  • May be required to participate in clinical research design and advise regarding research/evaluation design, statistical data analysis, methodology; Complete all required hospital education and safety training

Successful completion of graduate education, minimum Masters level Degree in Psychology (i.e. with four years of experience working in the scope of practice of Psychology and registration in good standing with the College of Psychologists and Behavioural Analysts of Ontario as well as registration as a Psychologist in other recognized Canadian jurisdictions (ie. Association of Psychology of Newfoundland and Labrador, etc.); OR successful completion of a doctoral level degree in Psychology (Ph.with a one-year internship and registration in good standing with the College of Psychologists and Behavioural Analysts of Ontario

  • Successful completion of graduate education, minimum Masters level degree in psychology (i.e. with four years of experience working in the scope of practice of psychology, registration in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Clinical psychology training and practice experience is a prerequisite; neuropsychology training is a plus, but not required
  • Recent relevant experience in the completion of diagnostic assessments with adults experiencing a wide range of mental health and neuro-developmental disorders including severe personality disorders is a prerequisite.
  • Acute Care hospital-based service experience is preferred.
  • Possesses and maintains competence in administering, scoring, and interpreting (including selection, and interpreting standardized and non-standardized testing instruments, as well as perceptive behavioural and/or test setting observations) a wide range of testing instruments
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team along with other health care providers, families and community partners
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Community Treatment Orders, Health Care Consent Act and any other relevant legislation
  • Ability to provide clinical supervision and training for student internships in the provision of psychological services in accordance with any/all relevant ethical, professional, and supervision guidelines of the Canadian Psychological Association and the College of Psychologists and Behavioural Analyst of Ontario is a plus.
  • excellent keyboarding/report writing skills with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Waterloo-Regional Health Network’s Mental Health & Addiction Program recovery philosophy and comprehensive safety programs
