Project Accountant Accounting

Your new company Hays is searching for an experienced Project Accountant to join a long‑established real estate developer and builder based in Vancouver, known for creating residential and commercial projects across Metro Vancouver.
You will be responsible for setting up, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting all financial information related to assigned projects. Working in close partnership with the Development and Construction teams, the Project Accountant manages the complete project accounting cycle.
Lead monthly budget review meetings with Management and the Project Manager for each active project.
Support Management and Project Managers in budgeting and forecasting; Ensure all project contracts, commitments, and financial adjustments identified by Management and PMs are accurately reflected in financial tracking, billing, and reporting systems.
Oversee the project invoicing workflow, coordinating with PMs, subcontractors, suppliers, management, and other relevant stakeholders.
Assist with monthly invoicing and draw submissions for each project in partnership with internal management and the Quantity Surveyor.
Maintain organized project accounting files and documentation.
Prepare and issue month-end project financial reports in a timely manner.
Manage full-cycle accounting for all construction-related projects.
Oversee project Accounts Receivable, including monthly progress draws.
Administer and monitor cost control practices, including frequent reconciliation of subcontractor and supplier invoices.
Maintain and reconcile the Project General Ledger on an ongoing monthly basis.
Oversee project reporting summaries (Pro forma, Cash Flow, Job Costing, Sales Status, Financing, Schedules, and Construction Budgets), ensuring construction and development forecasts are integrated into the overall pro forma.
Review monthly bank reconciliations and physical cheque runs.
Support the annual Review/NTR process with external accountants, including preparing and submitting working paper packages and ensuring timely completion of financial statements.
Assist with additional accounting projects as needed.

Minimum 3 years of full-cycle/project accounting experience within construction and/or real estate development.
A business-related degree or diploma with ongoing progress toward a CPA designation.
Experience with cost accounting is an asset; strong understanding of project accounting best practices in construction or architecture.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
