Join our team as a Mental Health Addictions Counsellor!
The Mental Health Addictions Counsellor maintains a caseload and provides clinical leadership and resources to the Family Centred Addiction Program. The Mental Health Addictions Counsellor provides critical alcohol and other drug assessment treatment interventions and referral services to participants. This role supports the individual struggling with substance misuse as well as their immediate family. The Mental Health Addictions Counsellor will screen for assess and provide focused treatment for mental health concerns that are concurrent with substance used. The Mental Health Addictions Counsellor will provide informational programming as well as individual and group counseling sessions to participants and their children in an in-house setting. This position will assess individual/ family and group needs and implement plans to help participants reach their goals. The Mental Health Addictions Counsellor also provides on-call rotation crisis management support. The Mental Health Addictions Counsellor is a key communication link between stakeholders through written reports consults and case conferences. The Mental Health Addictions Counsellor collaborates with community agencies and referring agents to deliver and implement clinical recommendations. The Mental Health Addictions Counsellor contributes significantly to a positive therapeutic environment for individuals families and groups. Mental Health Addictions Counsellor s host a strengths-based anti-oppressive theoretical perspective.

Masters degree in social work counseling or in a related human service field.
Minimum one (1) year of experience working with children youth adults and families and experience providing group and family counselling.
Clinical experience in an alcohol/drugs or mental health setting preferred.
Strong assessment counselling and service/treatment planning skills with individuals couples and families.
Knowledge of child development and parenting skills and strategies.
Knowledge of child protection risk factors and legislation.
Knowledge of evidence-based theoretical models and therapeutic approaches related to mental health addictions domestic violence trauma attachment reunification/preservation services and other clinical issues within the field of intensive family practice.
Knowledge of formal clinical assessment tools used to assess and inform treatment of substance use concerns/disorder and mental health concerns/disorders.
Knowledge of and experience using tools to support families and inform treatment planning.
Ability to be flexible think critically and adapt to new situations.
Ability to work in and respond to high-risk situations related to child protection practice and make thoughtful critical decisions to mitigate acute risk.
Open to continuous education and learning and development opportunities.
Proficient computer skills.
Ability to lead and develop therapeutic group programming focused on psycho education recovery interventions and best practice approaches for group work with co-occurring disorders.
A knowledge of holistic treatment for addictions and mental health. Including a bio-psycho-social-spiritual conceptualization of concerns and approaches to treatment.
Knowledge of and experience providing culturally relevant supports and treatment to First Nation Metis and Inuit families and highlighting this in treatment planning.

Provide clinical oversight and lead the development and implementation of individual and family treatment plans
Work collaboratively with the Family Preservation Therapist in the treatment planning for the individuals and families
Provide education support and clinical counselling to participants.
Deliver family individual and couples counselling to the participants.
Awareness for family safety child abuse/neglect child welfare domestic violence suicide self-harm mental health environmental safety addictions etc.
Develop safety plans/support plans collaboratively with Family Preservation Therapist in conjunction with family members to reduce the identified risks by accessing personal and external resources.
Lead planning conferences family consultations/meetings and conferences with other human-service professionals. Participate in planning conferences and conferences with other stakeholders as required.
Case plan for holistic after-care services to best support the families long-term positive functioning and work collaboratively with families and community agencies to implement.
Collaboratively develop recovery maintenance plans (relapse prevention plans) that are evolving and reflective of the internal/external risks/triggers and the protective factors.
Provide 24/7 on-call rotation therapeutic crisis management support to participants.
Provide oversight and influence related to the therapeutic milieu of the treatment program providing employee training or education sessions when required.
Provide educational and training sessions to the larger agency and community.
Disseminate important information to families and referring agencies in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
Set the direction for the treatment program by integrating quality improvement initiatives and encouraging reflective practice.
Share specialized knowledge with the treatment team and provide professional consultation and training to assist with the professional development of the team members.
Share effective treatment interventions with relevant community agencies and professionals involved in a familys treatment as well as support in after-care planning and delivery.

Manage and evaluate specialized or adjunct therapies and clinical resources within an allocated budget.
Coordinate and collaborate with community resources when required.
Ensure fiscal responsibility to the agency by projecting possible participant needs and working within the monthly budget.
Provide input into budgets for special needs events or education sessions.

Adhere to written or verbal agency and government regulations policies practices and instructions.

The incumbent is responsible for completing all mandatory training requirements for the position as per agency policy and guidelines.
Employees must hold a class five (5) novice two (2) or higher drivers license and be eligible for coverage under our commercial auto insurance policy.
