Industrial Products Designer

THE OPPORTUNITY The Industrial Designer III is responsible for creating a wide range of solutions; The Industrial Designer III will develop design concepts using CAD tools, mock-ups and prototypes, and will validate designs thru testing and trials. The Industrial Designer III will be a key member of the design and engineering team and will participate in the new product development and product improvement efforts of the company. He/she will actively participate in the entire design process; design trends and user insight, brainstorming sessions, creation of sketches and mock-ups to demonstrate new ideas while working alongside with the other departments to establish the design brief, including the concept, performance and production criteria and to ensure manufacturability, durability and performance of the products.
The Industrial Designer III must have an inquisitive and creative mind with exceptional 3D modeling and sketching skills. This position also requires a good understanding of technology, materials and manufacturing methods for plastics and composites. He/She will explore new and emerging areas or technology in a wide range of disciplines while taking account of technical constraints and limitations to propose concepts for the real world.
Participate in the implementation of Design Thinking, brainstorming sessions, organising and leading design work sessions and demonstrate human-centered problem solving.

• Interact with Product Managers, Engineers, other designers and suppliers as required during the design process and design for manufacturability.
• Actively participate in the entire design process and develop tools to support the different phases.
• Participate in the definition of the design briefs.
• Create 3D CAD models of composite, metal or injection-molded components that meet established requirements & standards.
• Incorporate improvements and feedback into 3D model designs and revisions.
• Translate 2D concepts into 3D models.
• Create 3D realistic images (renderings) and animations.
• Create and maintain the product Bill of Materials (BOM) in PLM through product development.

Maintain CAD files and ensure proper organization.
Performance:

• Bring innovative concepts in response to user needs and technical requirements.
• Take account of technical constraints and limitations to ensure the proposed solutions are aligned with the established product roadmap timeline.
• Include the product design language, functionality and usability in every proposed solution.
• Bachelor degree in industrial design with 3-5 years of relevant experience or community college (DEC in Quebec) with 7-10 years or relevant experience.
• Exceptional creative problem solving and design skills, including sketching and 3D modeling.
• Proficiency in the use software tools such as SolidWorks, Adobe CC and Keyshot.
• Strong Experience in Advanced Surface modeling, Class-A surfacing & Techniques, is a must.
• Creative and ability to work autonomous and part of a team.
• Experience with production environment is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and other drafting standards is an asset.
• Strong English language, verbal communication and writing skills. Knowledge of and experience of working with Military and Personal Protective Equipment Standards, a plus.

Office base and manufacturing environment.
