1.0 Permanent position – Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf, Belleville (Secondary program).

Position is available September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027 (contracts rated under the Provincial Schools Authority).

Currently there is an exciting career opportunity available at Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf – Secondary program in Belleville.

Teacher of the Deaf – English Teacher, one (1.0) Permanent position. The position will require intermediate/senior division qualifications.

Valid Certificate of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) (if no candidates with an OCT apply, other candidates will be considered);

Deaf Specialist / Teaching Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing qualification, and/or currently engaged in completing the requirements for the specialist qualification;

English – Grades 9–12, intermediate/senior divisions (course codes ENG2D1, ENGB01, ENG1L1);

Previous experience teaching would be an asset.

Demonstrated experience teaching Deaf/hard of hearing students in academic programs and programs for students with multiple exceptionalities;

In-depth knowledge of the principles of teaching Deaf students;

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including proficiency in English and American Sign Language (ASL);

Ability to apply an in-depth knowledge of bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural education for Deaf students;
