As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success. The Strait Regional Centre for Education, with the support of approximately 1,1166 employees, works diligently to achieve its mission “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.” In 2025-2026, the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students; and approximately 375 children are attending pre-primary programs at 14 school locations. Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021).This position falls under the Non-Union Compensation Framework. As of August 2025, it is classified at Band 14, with a salary range of $123,154.00 to $153,943.00. Starting salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s education and experience.

Scope:

The Family of Schools Supervisor is a senior leadership role responsible for guiding and supporting school administrators within the region. The position focuses on ensuring that schools are safe, inclusive, and welcoming environments that promote both student well-being and high academic achievement. By working closely with principals and vice-principals, the Family of Schools Supervisor provides strategic direction, aligns school efforts with regional goals, and ensures that Student Success Planning is effectively implemented and consistent with the broader vision of the Regional Centre for Education.
A central component of the role is building leadership capacity through professional learning and performance management. The Family of Schools Supervisor identifies development needs, delivers high-quality training, and conducts performance appraisals for school administrators. They promote evidence-based practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment, while fostering collaboration across schools and regional teams. The position also ensures compliance with provincial and organizational policies, supports operational effectiveness, and helps create professional networks that drive continuous improvement in student outcomes.
The role carries a high level of responsibility and decision-making authority, including supervising administrators, addressing complex staff and parent concerns, reviewing disciplinary decisions such as suspensions, and contributing to the hiring of school leaders. The Family of Schools Supervisor operates in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment requiring strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. With direct and indirect influence over school performance, budgets, and student achievement, the position plays a critical role in shaping educational quality and system-wide success.

Qualifications:

Education and Certifications:
~Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and possess a valid Teaching Certificate. Additional credentials such as completion of an Instructional Leadership Academy or experience at the regional/provincial level are considered assets.

Experience:
Applicants are expected to have 7–10 years of relevant experience, including:

• At least 5 years of successful teaching experience, ideally across multiple grade levels
• A minimum of 5 years as a school-based Principal
• Proven leadership in curriculum, instruction, and assessment
• Experience developing and delivering effective professional learning
• Demonstrated ability to handle complex and urgent situations using solution-focused approaches
• Experience working with data (academic, well-being, and disaggregated) to inform decision-making
• Experience collaborating with families, communities, and cross-divisional teams

Skills and Competencies:
Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal abilities, including:

• Knowledge and application of inclusive education, culturally responsive pedagogy, and restorative practices
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
• Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work independently, lead teams, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
• High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
• Familiarity with systems such as PowerSchool
