Accounting Specialist, Finance-Investment

Contributes to the overall success of Global Payment Operations in Canada by ensuring operational accounting activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. The Accounting Officer supports financial reporting, reconciliations, payment processing, accounts receivable activities, and month-end accounting processes while contributing to a high-performing and customer-focused environment.
Prepare journal entries in PeopleSoft (PS8.9) and Scotiabank General Ledger systems as requested by business partners.
Process NB250A transactions and complete all associated accounting entries.
Process wire payments and fund accounts through FFT Terminal.
Perform daily reconciliations of control accounts and investigate outstanding items.
Process invoices and US/CAD250A transactions while supporting business partners and offshore teams with related inquiries.
Complete monthly charge-outs, cost recoveries, and accounts receivable reconciliations.
Prepare monthly amortization entries for prepaid accounts.
Create Zero Dollar Vouchers in PeopleSoft 9.2 for account reclassifications and accounts receivable recoveries.
Clear bank reconciliation items on a daily basis and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Collaborate with partners across the Bank to ensure accurate financial reporting and operational support.
Understand and apply the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Support operational excellence by maintaining strong controls and compliance with operational, regulatory, AML/ATF, sanctions, and conduct risk requirements.
Contribute to an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performance work environment.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum 2 years of accounting or finance experience within a banking, financial services, or related environment.
Strong understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting processes.
Experience processing payments, invoices, accounts payable, and accounts receivable activities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
Experience working with PeopleSoft (PS8.2) is considered an asset.
Demonstrated commitment to operational excellence, risk management, and compliance.
