We are seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our Markham office, with consideration for any location across Canada. You will be part of the Water Resources Technical Team within Stantec’s Environmental Services Business Line, contributing to a wide range of water resources projects with a focus on mine water management. As a Senior Water Resources Engineer, you will have the potential to lead projects involving hydraulic and hydrologic modelling, mine water management infrastructure design and planning, water balance and water quality models, erosion and sediment control, fish passage design, stream restoration, water quality analysis, flood hazard assessments, dam breach assessments, and much more. We are a passionate team who support our clients across Canada in addressing mine water quantity and quality issues.

Lead and manage mine water resources management projects throughout the life of mine phases (project economic assessments to closure plans), including baseline studies and water management design and planning, and water balance and/or water quality model development in support of NI 43-101 studies, including as a Qualified Person.

Surface water resources studies and assessments in support of environmental assessments, including baseline water quality and hydrology studies, water management infrastructure design and planning, site-wide water balance and water quality model development.

Mine closure planning and studies supporting studies.

Technical lead for design of water management infrastructure, including sedimentation ponds, drainage ditches, dewatering plans, erosion and sediment control plans, watercourse crossings and alterations, watercourse diversions, and more.

Provide technical leadership within multidisciplinary teams (e.g., water quality specialists, hydrogeologists, geochemists, and engineers), coordinating inputs and integrating findings into defensible recommendations.

Oversee project budgets, staff allocation, and invoice preparation and review.

Prepare proposals, develop work plans, schedules, and budgets, and manage projects and tasks.

Author clear and comprehensive technical reports documenting modeling results, field investigations and analytical findings.

Design and supervise hydrological and water quality field investigations.

Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams to contribute to project success.

Apply industry standards, guidelines, and regulatory frameworks consistently.

Perform primarily office-based work involving extended computer use and data analysis.

Travel to field sites as required, including occasional overnight stays.

Experience with site-wide mine water balance and/or water quality models (e.g., Experience with water management infrastructure design (e.g., Solid understanding of provincial and federal water resources legislation, regulations, and guidance.

Capacity to manage multiple projects and tasks consistently.

Disciplined approach to project execution and technical excellence.

Preference for candidates with a Master’s or Doctorate-level degree in a related field.

Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in consulting or regulatory environments, predominantly related to mine water management, or an equivalent combination.

Professional registration with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or another Canadian Professional Engineering Association.

At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
