Photonics Design Engineer

Photonic Layout Design Engineers at Photonic deliver high quality, large-scale photonic layouts and play a key role in the development of our photonic quantum computer. In this role, you will work within a highly interdisciplinary team to design first-of-their-kind photonic layouts for implementing truly scalable quantum technologies.

Design and optimize complex active and passive, large-scale silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs)
Propose and implement innovative design solutions
Implement custom process design kits in common CAD tools
Generate new software and scripts as required to meet design goals
Work with foundries and manufacturers
Drive research and development in the silicon photonic space
Collaborate with a team of photonic designers, nanofabrication engineers, test engineers, and physicists
Master’s or PhD degree in electrical engineering, applied physics or other relevant discipline

• 3+ years of experience with photonic layout design in a professional setting
• Adept in common programming languages like Python and MATLAB
• Strong understanding of photonics, electronics, and electromagnetic compatibility
• 5+ years of experience with silicon photonics in an industrial setting
• Familiarity with photonic device design, circuit design and modeling. Familiarity with designing RF/Microwave circuits and systems including considerations for testing, packaging, signal integrity, power dissipation, etc. Knowledge of PIC packaging

The base annual salary range for this full-time role is between $97,300 to $133,800. Actual compensation may vary outside of this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to a candidate's qualifications including relevant education and training, competencies, experience, geographic location, and business needs.
