Occupational Therapist, Rehabilitation Services

The salary range for this position is CAD $45.15/Hr. - CAD $56.17/Hr. Come work as an Occupational Therapist with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) on the Sunshine Coast Home Care Service team in Sechelt, BC. Within the context of a client and family-centred care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, and the vision of Vancouver Coastal Health, North Shore/Coast Garibaldi Service Delivery area, this position provides occupational therapy services to clients in the community to achieve quality client focused care. Duties include identifying and assessing client’s performance issues utilizing an evidence-based approach, planning and implementing goal directed services, evaluating the effectiveness of the service, preparing and maintaining records. Contributes to the organization and delivery of occupational therapy services, and participates in departmental/program quality assurance initiatives, meetings, research, and education.

It is accessible from the mainland by a 40-minute ferry trip between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale, followed by a 25-minute drive along Highway 101, also know as the Sunshine Coast Highway. This charming seaside community is know for its natural beauty and is a popular destination for outdoor activities including sightseeing, boating, diving, camping, and mountain biking. There are also several municipal parks, plenty of eateries, locally owned shops, boutiques and galleries, and a golf course. Degree in occupational therapy or rehabilitation medicine.

Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).

Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).

Local travel requires the use of a personal vehicle.

Broad knowledge of occupational therapy standardized tests and measures.

Broad knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.

Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.

Demonstrated ability to teach and empower clients to assume control over their health.

Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in a complex health care environment.

Demonstrated ability to recognize when referral to another health care professional is required.

Skilled in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate for occupational therapy treatment.

Basic computer literacy.

Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
