A hiring preference will apply for qualified candidates of Canadian Indigenous ancestry, with a priority for qualified Yukon First Nation candidates. This initiative is in support of Yukon government’s goal for a representative public service. This is for one casual position, working 75 hours biweekly until September 18, 2026.
At Tourism and Culture, we are a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to promoting and preserving Yukon’s rich tourism, arts, heritage, and cultural sectors. The Heritage Carpenter plays a crucial role in the conservation of historic places within the Yukon. This position requires a skilled carpenter with a strong understanding of traditional building techniques, heritage conservation practices, and a passion for preserving the cultural heritage of the Yukon to work as part of a team of heritage professionals and First Nation partners, to conduct and plan for heritage carpentry work at sites managed or co-managed by the Historic Sites unit.

Experience in Carpentry, including work with traditional or historic building methods;
Experience working with Yukon First Nations and contributing to training and capacity‑building efforts;
Experience working in remote or field-based environments is an asset.
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.
Proficiency in traditional carpentry techniques and use of hand tools;
Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
Complete required field safety training such as Wilderness First Aid, Bear Aware, Boat safety and helicopter training, among others, as needed;
Travel to various communities and remote locations in Yukon, using various modes of ground, water and air transportation for periods up to 10 days at a time in a remote field camp setting;
Relocation expenses will not be provided for this position.
