Project Engineer Electrical Construction

As an Electrical Project Engineer, you will deliver capital projects for critical infrastructure, including the design and construction of electrical distribution systems for The City's industrial facilities primarily within its Water Utility. This work includes a wide range of engineering, technical, and project management assignments focused on electrical projects. Primary duties include:

Provide engineering oversight to ensure electrical infrastructure is safe, reliable, and sustainable.

Assess and identify requirements and opportunities to maintain, improve, and enhance electrical systems based on considerations including operational and maintenance requirements, regulatory compliance, industry best practices, and innovative products and technologies.

Develop a comprehensive understanding of the design and workings of electrical systems to lead discussions with other City interest-holders on electrical-related work.

Deliver electrically-focused capital projects to sustain or upgrade electrical infrastructure, including the following related responsibilities:

Ensure all work is performed with a focus and prioritization on safety.

Accept overall responsibility for managing a project¿s budget, schedule, and scope.

Prepare procurement documents and evaluate proposals to hire engineering consultants, construction contractors, and equipment suppliers.

Provide clear direction to external consultants, contractors, equipment suppliers and other third parties.

Engage with internal and external parties who may have an interest in the project.

Conduct comprehensive review and validation of engineering design, contract drawings and specifications.

Oversee construction, commissioning, and successful hand over of projects to operations and maintenance teams.

Report on progress, contract management and delivery of projects in compliance with existing City processes, including The City¿s project management framework.

Manage project close-outs including the submission of record drawings, warranties and operations & maintenance manuals.

Review and approve design drawings and specifications for compliance with code requirements, applicable City standards and guidelines, and industry best practices; contribute to updates to City standards and guidelines as needed.

Build and foster professional networks and relationships with internal technical experts, operations and maintenance staff, and interest-holders in other business units.

Qualifications

A degree in Electrical Engineering with a P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing statu s OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. No experience as a professional engineer is required.

Experience in the design of industrial electrical distribution systems is preferred.

Preference may be given to applicants who can demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of code requirements, industry best practices, and regulatory guidelines pertaining to electrical systems.

Training or experience in project management with a focus on the delivery of capital projects will be an asset.

Familiarity with the delivery of electrical capital projects within critical infrastructure facilities will also be an asset.

A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) and access to a personal vehicle for business use.

Demonstrated ability to work in a complex organization, leading a multi-disciplinary team to resolve problems and successfully deliver projects.

This position requires strong technical and analytical skills, strategic and critical thinking, risk assessment, problem solving and independent decision making, attention to detail and accuracy, and strong communication skills.
