Training begins May 1 to end of June, as scheduled on weekends.

The Beach Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of visitors at Port Stanley by monitoring beach and water activities, preventing accidents, and responding to emergencies. This role involves patrolling the beach, maintaining safety zones, enforcing rules, and providing excellent public service.

​ Surveillance & Safety:
Establish safe swimming zones with flags and signs.
Attend regular lifeguard training
Perform water rescues using appropriate equipment and techniques.
Assist in coordinating with Central Elgin Fire Rescue/allied emergency services response teams when necessary.
Public Interaction & Rule Enforcement:
Educate the public on water safety, hazardous conditions, and beach rules.
Current National Lifesaving Society Certification: Pool, Waterfront, or Surf

• Successful completion of the physical fitness-screening test*
• Physical ability to run and stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Safe Boater certification is considered an asset

*Lifeguards will be required to attend a tryout to assess preliminary fitness prior to being offered an interview. Fitness testing will include a 400m swim and 800m run. Additional fitness testing throughout training will be required for employment.
Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
Shifts include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs.
