The role is responsible for performing janitorial duties and ensuring The Salvation Army Fredericton Ministries and facilities are maintained in a healthy safe and sanitary manner in compliance with applicable standards.

Responsible for any combination of light cleaning duties to maintain defined work areas.
Ensure the weekly upkeep of the facilities i.e. empty all garbage receptacles place in the appropriate dumpster and place refundable in shed.
Vacuum all carpeted areas sweep all tiled areas wash floors and baseboards in tiled areas clean all glass areas; windows and ledges etc. Wipe down all tables chairs and door handles checks cleans moves arranges and dusts furniture as required.
If applicable ensure kitchen cleanliness clean and polish sinks toilets and counter tops mirrors and fixtures; clean washrooms (toilets sinks floors) restock washrooms and hand sanitizers and distribute received material as required.
Check doors and windows to ensure building security.
Perform minor repairs such as electrical (change light bulbs) and plumbing (unblocking toilets troubleshooting flushing issues)light furniture fixing (tighten screws) reports safety concerns and major repair issues to supervisor.
Spot wash accessible walls strip and wax floors spot cleaning and shampoo carpets as required.
Ensure the general upkeep of external property (litter pick up etc.)
Keep food bank area clean and safe by adhering to all health and safety standards recommended by Public Health etc.
Contribute to the overall safety of staff volunteers donors clients and guests (e.g. clear fire exits cleans spillage; Use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.
Report any workplace hazards dangers safety issues injuries or illness immediately and ensure care is taken with all equipment and property.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:

Minor material responsibility.
Work environment is typically at the facilities in generally agreeable conditions. Some duties (groundskeeping) should be performed outdoors.
The performance of the job requires operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools mopping/sweeping reaching bending twisting lifting occasional ladder work and fine motor skills.
Requires moderate to high attention when handling hazardous chemicals and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required including Child Check (if appropriate).

High School Diploma
Related maintenance Education/ Certificates would be an asset

Minimum 6 months custodial and/or maintenance work experience

Valid Newfoundland drivers license (Class 5)
Valid Criminal record check with vulnerable sector

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
