Job Title: Director of Programs
The United African Canadian Women's Association (UACWA) seeks to employ a full time Director of Programs.
UACWA is a community based not-for-profit association formed in 1996 by a group of women of African descent who live in Nova Scotia. The members of the association are committed to improving the welfare and wellbeing of immigrant women of African descent and their families to ease their settlement as they make their new home in Canada.
Job Overview: The director is responsible for overseeing all operational responsibilities for UACWA staff, programs, policies and execution of UACWA strategic priorities, including leading a dynamic team of staff working on diverse projects, will identify relevant areas of research, evaluation and advocacy related to and affecting UACWA community participants, programs, and partners. Work with UACWA board to operationalize its 3year strategic plan and manage the overall operations and success of all UACWA's programs and projects.
- Update Board executive on project progress.
- Build and maintain positive professional, partnerships and community relationships as directed by UACWA.
- A university degree and/or demonstrable experience in transparent and high integrity leadership and Management
- A good understanding of issues/challenges faced by people of African descent especially women. Demonstrable experience in researching, proposal/grant writing and report preparation.
- Ability to manage multi-stakeholder relationships, strong communication and networking skill.
- Demonstrable experience working with community-based organization. Demonstrable experience in leadership and management as they relate to non-profit grass root organizations.
- A self starter with great initiative and strong organizational skills and ability to work flexible hours.
- Must have an advanced knowledge of computer usage and internet search.
